Product reviews, tutorials and philosophical musings. But, first, the news.

The big news this week is that Adobe MAX, the world's biggest creativity conference will take place virtually October 20 - 22nd, and will feature notable creative luminaries and celebrity speakers such as Ava DuVernay, Keanu Reeves, Tyler the Creator, and Annie Leibovitz; keynotes, technology Sneaks and presentations on the latest innovations across Adobe Creative Cloud; and of course, hundreds of live and on-demand learning sessions for all skill levels. Best of all, this year's event is FREE!

The "other" Larry Jordan, Lawrence Jordan, ACE, co-founded MasterTheWorkflow.com, which focuses on training assistant film editors. Recently, in celebration of the 35th Anniversary of the release of "Back to the Future," he posted an interview with Oscar-winning film editor Arthur Schmidt, ACE. Arther edited all three BTTF movies, along with Forest Gump, Pirates of the Caribbean, and most of the films you've watched for the last thirty years. While the entire interview is available to members only, the first 20 minutes are available for free here.

In other news, CrumplePop has released five new audio plug-ins that support all the major NLE's: Final Cut, Premiere and DaVinci Resolve. Published by FXFactory, my review of them is my lead story this week.

My webinars will restart on Wednesday, Sept. 9. I'll publish new topics next week - you can track them here. In the meantime, I have a special offer on our two recent series: "The Basics of Editing" with Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro X. Each of these four-part series covers everything you need to know from getting started to final output. If you, or someone you know, wants to improve their skills, one of these two series is a great place to start.

Turning to my news, I'm delighted that my book - Techniques of Visual Persuasion - has already garnered 5-star reviews. I wrote this book for both filmmakers and the general business audience who are looking for techniques they can use to improve the impact of their projects. Joe Ake wrote: "This book is a must read for anyone wanting to communicate though visual creation. I have been a working pro in the field of visual production for over 25 years. Larry cut right to the points that will take your work to the next level." Please purchase a copy for yourself - and thanks!

In other tutorials this week, I show how to create a video in Final Cut that counts down in real-time using minutes and seconds, then embed that into a Keynote presentation. Another tutorial shows how to update audio plugins in Adobe Premiere Pro or Audition after installation; this process is not obvious.

Finally, I have a series of "12 Truths for Video Editors" - maxims that are true regardless of what NLE you use. Partly humorous and definitely true, you'll want to read - and post - these. Then, I wrap up showing how to create an animated generator in Motion for use in Final Cut Pro X. All in the Articles section below.

Lots of good stuff to read and think about this week.

With two hurricanes threatening the southeast US this coming week, I'm reminded of the dialog from Apollo 13: "Flight, we are looking at a typhoon warning on the edge of the prime recovery zone. Now, this is just a warning, it could miss them..." "Yeah, only if their luck changes." Some days it feels like whatever can go wrong, is going wrong this year. The end of summer is fast approaching. Here in the US, Labor Day is just two weeks away. Hang on, have hope.
