This book is about a hundred of projects that have been designed with community as the paramount priority. This specific architecture and design practices are brought to North America from Denmark by Charles Durrett, who spent 13 months studying bofællesskaber in Denmark, which he later introduced to the English-speaking world as cohousing with his former partner Kathryn McCamant. Their first book, Cohousing: A Contemporary Approach to Housing Ourselves, now called Creating Cohousing in the third edition, has spawned the design and construction of over 200 cohousing communities in North America, and another 20 or so now in Britain.
