University Advising Services

Academic Advising Appointments are Underway!

LABOR DAY has another meaning for FAU students, outside of being the first holiday of the academic year in which FAU has no classes.  It's a day that should have initiated a very important action:

L - Let's
A - All
B - Begin
O - Our
R - Registration Advising
  • It is important for students to see their advisor at least once a semester, especially to verify the course options that would be best for them to register to take in the upcoming semester(s).
  • First year students will have a Freshman Advising Hold on their account until they schedule and attend their required meeting with an Academic Advisor!
  • If a student's assigned advisor does not have open appointment times that work with a student's schedule, a student may schedule an appointment with a different advisor in order to accommodate the student need.
  • Please encourage your student to meet with their Academic Advisor early, since it is in their best interest not to wait until Advance Registration for Spring 2020 begins (in late October).
  • If a student is interested in changing their major , it is very important to meet with an advisor as soon as possible.
  • The Career Center is a great place to help students at any stage of their major and career journey: https://www.fau.edu/career/ .
  • The Academic Calendar is a helpful resource for students & families: http://www.fau.edu/registrar/registration/calendar.php
  • Families and support persons of students may ask open ended questions about classes and college life during this month.   You can ask what their favorite classes are, what types of course assignments they've enjoyed doing the most, what has surprised them the most, and how they spend their time outside of class.
