Puster Elementary Principal Message
August 29, 2019
Puster Families,

I’m excited to share that Officer Jose is back on campus! You will start seeing his friendly face this afternoon and from here forward.

Last week, we celebrated ALL of the amazing reading your kids did over the summer by holding a staff talent show! It was SO fun! The reading doesn’t stop once the celebration is over. We all know we get better at the things we practice. All students should be getting about 20 minutes of reading in each day - whether it’s an audio book, leveled reader, someone reading aloud to them, taking turns reading, silent reading....it all counts!

Today I was walking by the library and a Kinder student was jumping down saying “YEAH! A BOOK!” after he checked out his very first book of the 2019-2020 school year! Earlier in the week, I walked into a 3rd grade classroom where the students were like moths to the light intently listening to their teacher read aloud to them. She explained that they had just been to the library for the first time and the kids said “Mrs. ___, can we PLEASE have time to read?!” The teacher then explained to me that “Books are gold in our classroom.” Absolutely! Books ARE gold!

We will not have school on Monday, September 2. I hope you and your families have a restful weekend - and enjoy a good book!

Pride in Puster,
Holly

If you haven’t done so already, please go into Dismissal Manager and set your child’s default dismissal option. We will rely solely on this system for dismissal changes. Please note that the “Bus #” is actually your child’s “Route #” in the system. I apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

When data was pulled for the system, it included emergency contacts. If you find you have kids listed that don't belong to you OR if you find that your emergency contact is being notified when you make a dismissal change, just notify us in the office. It is an easy fix on our end.

4th Grade Parents, we are so excited that so many of our students are excited about becoming Leopard Leaders and News Crew Members! We have had a few questions regarding the applications so we wanted to provide you with a little more information to help out. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask!

FAQs
  1. Where are the applications located?
  2.  Go to the Puster Website. Then click on the Departments tab and click Library Media Center on the drop-down menu. Next, click Leopard Leaders/Puster News on the right-hand side of the screen. This will open a screen where they can fill out a form and submit.
  3. When I click on the application I cannot fill it out. What should I do?
  4. These forms only can accept information from Lovejoy ISD Google accounts. Make sure that you have your student log in to Google first.
  5. When are the applications due?
  6. Both applications are due by Friday, August, 30 which is the Friday of the second week of school.
Thank you again for your interest!

Parent Portal Accounts
For the 2019-2020 school year, PowerSchool enhanced Contacts to allow us to add one contact and attach multiple students to that account. Information added and/or updated for that person is done one time for all students linked to that person. This includes updating phone numbers, emails, addresses, etc. across campuses.

Parent Portal usernames, account emails and passwords have been updated. Accounts will now be created at the campus by request. Initially we have added accounts for all contacts that are in PowerSchool that have a relationship of Mother, Father, or Guardian using the email on file. This includes students new to the district for 2019-2020 and all new kindergarten students.
The Parent Portal opens on August 12 for viewing schedules, homerooms, and completing the yearly enrollment updates (FERPA, Waivers, and Transportation Requests). No later than Sunday, August 11 each account for the Mother, Father, and Guardian will receive a message through School Messenger using the email on file. This message will include the account username (the email address attached to the account).

1.      Go to  https://powerschool.lovejoyisd.net .
2.      Click on “Forgot Username or Password?”
3.      Enter the Parent Username sent to you through School Messenger (email).
4.      Enter the same email address in the “Parent Email Address” field.
5.      Click on Enter.
6.      An email will be sent to this email address with the temporary password.
7.      Use this password to continue to the Parent Portal where you will be required to change the password.

When you are on the Parent Portal, you should see the students attached to your account. However, if you don’t see those students you may use the Student Access ID and Access Code contained in the School Messenger email to link the student to your account. If you have multiple students in Lovejoy ISD you will receive one School Messenger email per student.

Library News
It has been an amazing week in the library! We have kicked off our Library Orientation for 1st-3rd grades and our Makerspace Orientation for 4th and Kindergarten. Your students have been working very hard on codes and ciphers as well as with learning how to utilize the library.

We are very excited about the interest we have been hearing about regarding volunteering in the library! PTA helps us organize our volunteers and we are so thankful for their help!

As we continue to plan our Makerspace lessons we will be requesting certain items to assist in our lessons. If you are interested in donating be on the lookout in this section of the Principal's Message as well as on the Library website.

Book Fair is quickly approaching!! Your students will be able to preview the fair on September 20th and shopping will begin on September 23rd. Also, we will be open during the Ice Cream Social so make sure to stop by if you are up here!

Thank you for all you do for us here in the library, we know it is going to be an exciting year!

Sincerely,

Naomi Emory, L.M.S.

PTA News
Dear Puster Families,
Did you know the Puster PTA sponsors several FREE events during the school year....Fall Family Fun Night, Mother/Son night, Daddy/Daughter Dance.

In order to sponsor these events, we ask the community to donate to Puster's Annual Leopard Drive. This is our only fund-raising event. The funds collected will only be used at Puster and will support the great events and programs for all students throughout the year. If we do not meet our fundraising goals, we will have to start charging for these events.

If you have not donated yet, please consider donating so that we may continue to support these programs.

Bus Information

The 2019-2020 bus route information will be finalized by August 7 th. On or after this date, bus stop locations and times can be retrieved from the district's website at www.lovejoyisd.net under “Quick Links” or the “Transportation” section under Departments.

After selecting “Bus Routes 2019-2020”, a new screen will appear where you enter your address in the search box and select 'Search'. Route information will appear, including the stop location and times, along with a map. Bus stop information will only display for students who have requested bus transportation through PowerSchool.

If your student is a returning student and rode the bus last year, their PowerSchool account should already be marked “yes” for bus transportation. PowerSchool transportation choices from last year will roll over to this year. When PowerSchool is open to parents, please review your Transportation “yes” or “no” choice for 2019-2020 to make sure the correct one is selected. It is extremely important that this information is correct so we know how many students will need bus service. If your student will NOT ride the bus, please make sure the transportation choice is marked “no” for the 2019-2020 year so we have an accurate count of how many will ride the buses.

If your student is new this year, and would like your child to ride the bus, this is done through PowerSchool under the “Enrollment & Student Forms” section. Detailed instructions on requesting bus service, and Transportation Policies & Procedures are available on the district’s website under “Departments” and selecting Transportation.
