Merchants of Whitefish Bay Banner Design Scholarship:
|

Do you know a talented high school artist? The Merchants of Whitefish Bay (MoWFB) are pleased to announce a 2020 college scholarship opportunity.
The goal of this new MoWFB Scholarship is to recognize a student for the creation an original work of art to be used to create new welcoming banners for the Shopping District of Whitefish Bay. The artwork should creatively communicate a message and demonstrates a good use of composition. Two $1,000 Scholarships are available.
Applicant must be a Whitefish Bay resident or attend WFBHS or DHS, students attending a high school outside of Whitefish Bay are eligible if they are a Whitefish Bay resident.

Check out the unofficial results from the 2020 Spring Primary election for the Village of Whitefish Bay. These are local results only. Whitefish Bay turnout was 32.78% of registered voters.
Thank you to all the poll workers and community members for participating in the election. The Spring Election and Presidential Preference Primary is Tuesday, April 7, 2020.

permanent or mobile collection locations. It’s a great way for you to help keep our land and water clean and safe!

Scam Alert from the Police Department:

The Whitefish Bay Police Department has been made aware of a scam by individuals in the area acting as WE Energies employees to gain access to homes.
If someone comes to your door claiming to be from WE Energies, ask for identification. It’s not rude, it’s safe. Here’s how to tell a real We Energies employee or contractor from a fake one.
- An employee or contractor will readily prove their identity. An imposter won’t.
- An employee or contractor will wear a photo ID with their name and company logo.
- When in doubt, call WE Engeries at 800-242-9137 so they can confirm their employee’s or their contractor’s identity.
If you have elderly neighbors please alert them to this activity as they may not be subscribed to email notifications. Other North Shore Police agencies have had similar incidents reported to them in recent weeks. Please be careful of those you allow in your residence.

Join us for the Racial Wealth Gap Learning Simulation for an interactive exploration of how federal policies have created structural inequalities and why racial equity is so important to ending hunger and poverty in America.
This conversation is for those who want to become more aware of structural inequality and how to support policies that undo and/ or reduce disparities in our communities. This conversation is being facilitated by hunger fighter, food advocate and public health ambassador, Rayna Andrews.

Summer Bay Volunteer Program:
The Summer Bay Volunteer Program is looking for volunteers Grade 9 through Grade 12 (as of the 2020-2021 School Year)
The Summer Bay Volunteer program provides the youth of Whitefish Bay an opportunity to become leaders in the community. Volunteers will be placed in summer day camp programs at Richards and Cumberland Schools to work with youth entering preschool thru 8th grade.
Applications can be found at the main offices of the Whitefish Bay Middle and High Schools and the Whitefish Bay Recreation and Community Education Department located on Lydell Avenue. Applications can also be downloaded from our website,
www.wfbschools.com.

Continues this week - Beauty and the Beast by the
Whitefish Bay School District Theater Department:
Step into the enchanted world of Broadway's modern classic, Disney's Beauty and the Beast. Based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature, the stage version includes all of the wonderful original songs along with new music, show-stopping numbers, iconic characters, and magic for the whole family.
The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed into his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.
This "tale as old as time" offers a perfect opportunity for the old, the young, and everyone in between to witness and enjoy family theater at its best. Come join us for this magical, humorous, and heart-warming experience at the Whitefish Bay High School Auditorium located at 1200 E. Fairmount Avenue.

Did you know? February is Heart Month, the perfect time to learn about your risk for heart disease and the steps you could take now to help your heart. Heart disease—and the conditions that lead to it—can happen at any age. High rates of obesity and high blood pressure among younger people (ages 35-64) are putting them at risk for heart disease earlier in life. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), half of all Americans have at least one of the top three risk factors for heart disease (high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and smoking).
The below conditions and behaviors that put all people at risk for heart disease are appearing at younger ages:
- High blood pressure (HBP). Millions of Americans of all ages have high blood pressure, including millions of people in their 40s and 50s. About half of people with high blood pressure don’t have it under control. Having uncontrolled high blood pressure is one of the biggest risks for heart disease and other harmful conditions, such as stroke. To learn more about HBP, go to the NSHD website and take the Blood Pressure 101 quiz under Resources on right of screen.
- High blood cholesterol. High cholesterol can increase the risk for heart disease. Having diabetes and obesity, smoking, eating unhealthy foods, and not getting enough physical activity can all contribute to unhealthy cholesterol levels. - Smoking. More than 37 million U.S. adults are current smokers, and thousands of young people start smoking each day. Smoking damages the blood vessels and can cause heart disease. If you do smoke, call the Wisconsin Tobacco Quit Line. This is a free service to help people quit smoking, vaping, or other tobacco use. It is sponsored by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. Call 800-QUIT-NOW (800-784-8669) to talk to a friendly quit coach.
