A Note from our PFA President, Dawn Sue-Dare
We are starting the "it's-the-end-of-the-year" holiday sprint...can you believe we have just 29 days of school left in 2019?

MAHALO to the following parents for their help with these important events in the month of October: Jodie Katofsky & Tiffany Lawrence (Walk to School Day); Tricia DeTuno (Fall Picture Day); Erin Mediuch (Box Tops Contest); Samantha Barnett (Party Book Launch); Faye Sokolsky, Jayne Polan & Nikki Friedman (5th Grade Bagel-in-a-Bag); Beth Jagtiani, Stephanie Golditch & Tyisha Banks (Red Ribbon Week & Book Fair); and Dana Shafran (All-School Halloween Parade).

Don't forget the 50/50 Candy Split was moved to Monday, 11/4 ! Please bring your leftover (or split) Halloween candy to morning car line and help support Bay Laurel Girl Scout Troops 1836 & 3606 in their efforts to collect candy to benefit Operation Gratitude.

Be on the lookout for signup sheets and/or information from your child's teacher about this month's upcoming Parent/Teacher Conferences ( TK/Kinder : 11/4 thru 11/8; Gr. 1-5 : 11/18 thru 11/22).

I am definitely looking forward to seeing everyone at our upcoming November PFA Meeting (Tuesday, 11/12 @ 8:30AM in the MPR). Mark your calendar, because Calabasas Mayor David Shapiro and Mayor Pro Tem Alicia Weintraub will be joining us!

GO DOLPHINS!

Counselor's Corner with Ms. Baldi
November 2019
Hi Bay Laurel Families! This month we will be focusing on the character disposition of Autonomy & Independence. Raising children to take ownership of their words and actions, having self-determination and self-reliance helps foster confidence, cognitive growth, self-resilience, success and inner happiness.

The greatest gifts you can give your children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence.” Denis Waitley

It’s been wonderful getting to know our Bay Laurel students, seeing them engaged in lunchtime clubs, interactive in the classrooms and implementing the second step program with the Journeys and Kindergarten students.

Below is an article about how parents can foster autonomy and encourage child development:

Thank you for stopping by the Counselor’s Corner. I look forward to working with your children and invite you to contact me with any questions, concerns, or thoughts. I am on campus on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00am to 3:00pm, and Wednesdays from 9:00am to 12:30pm.

Thank you,
Cheryl Baldi
School Counselor

RED RIBBON WEEK & HALLOWEEN SUCCESS
Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped to organize the schedule of Red Ribbon Week events and work at the Book Fair! Our kids had a great time picking out their own books and going shopping! We will continue to have the final events of Red Ribbon Week on Monday...so Wear Pajamas and come with Crazy Hair or Hats !

It was nice to end our unusual week with a fantastic Halloween parade and class parties. Check out some of the costumes we saw on Friday!
NEWS YOU CAN USE - especially our newer families!
Parent/Teacher Conferences: Monday kicks off our first Parent/Teacher conferences of the year with our TK/Kinder classes. A few weeks later, Grades 1-5 will have conferences. This is a time to check in with your teacher on your student's progress toward grade level goals. Each teacher will be setting up conference times with you via an email message. If you have not heard from your TK/Kinder teacher, please review your email for a missed message and then contact your teacher.

In order to allow for time to conduct the conferences, those grades having the conferences will be on a shortened day schedule during that week. For example, next week, the TK/Kinder students will be getting out of school at 12:15pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Wednesday will be regular dismissal at 11:30am. For Grades 1-5, early dismissal will occur at 12:15pm all that week. DANTE>>> >
