Through a grant provided by Smart Start Rowan, Partners In Learning is able to support community teachers and students through it's Community Inclusion Program. Amy, the behavioral specialist, coaches teachers through the evidenced-based Pyramid Model. The Pyramid Model focuses on effective environments, relationship building, and social emotional skills.
Amy began working with Whitney and Payton in September. They were struggling with knowing how to help their preschool students communicate and regulate emotions. They were constantly putting out fires. Amy worked weekly with Whitney and Payton on how to promote social emotional learning as well as helping students learn conflict resolution. By putting systems and visuals into place, they could prevention the fires from even starting.
Recently Whitney and Payton, had a mock assessment in preparation for the Stars.
During the assessment they got a glowing review on their interactions! One of the standards on the assessment is: using language to develop reasoning skills. Jamie, the assessor, had this to say, "Pat yourself on the back because this one is hard to get credit for!" Jamie observed children being encouraged to communicate as well as find a solution to a conflict. Both teachers worked on expanding the children's language.
Whitney and Payton are happy to report that their students are learning to solve problems, communicate their emotions, and learning to regulate their behavior!
