Ever since the pandemic took over, a lack of certainty has become one of few constants in our lives. Now, here we are - perched on a knife-edge of uncertainty about what the future holds for our country, our neighbors, the world. How can we be faithful to our better angels in this moment – within ourselves, and in our communities?
On Sunday, November 8 at 12 p.m. the Membership Team will be holding a virtual “Staying Connected” gathering. “Staying Connected” is primarily intended for “newish” folks to get acquainted and learn a bit more about First UU Society. It is very informal; we simply go around the “room” introducing ourselves, collecting and answering questions. We warmly invite you to join us via Zoom. We look forward to seeing you!
Thank you to all who have contributed donations to this year’s Autumn Auction! We have a mix of activities, food, games, handmade clothing, and art. Our goal with the auction is always to bring us together, so we are looking for donations that build community… food, gatherings (appropriately safe), services, arts and crafts, and gift certificates that support our larger community as well. So please think about what you can do or give to connect to others.
All bidding will be online from November 7 to 21. You can go to the auction website now to register to bid and to see the generous items that have already been donated, and come back to see the new additions. The auction website is: auctria.com/auction/FUUSBtogether. The holiday wreath sale is also part of the auction! See the auction website for details.
If you have any questions please contact the Auction Team at [email protected]. Thank you for helping us keep this tradition and bring our community together in fun, faith, and fellowship.

It's time to sign up for Theme Circles! Meeting monthly, starting in mid-November, each circle will explore and reflect on the themes of Healing, Stillness, Imagination, and Beloved Community. These facilitated discussions, now held on Zoom, are a wonderful way to make new friends, connect with old friends, and foster meaningful connections in our large congregation.
Normally these groups dissolve and reform for each new session, breaking completely during the summer, but this year, with the stress and isolation of the pandemic, many continued to meet throughout the summer and want to continue as a group a little longer. Once he hears from those who are interested, our Theme Circles coordinator, Rodney Lowe, will either match newcomers with open spots in these existing groups or form a whole new circle if the interest is there. Please contact him to sign up or for more information at
[email protected]. We look forward to another fabulous season of Theme Circles!

The Joint Urban Ministry Project (JUMP) is in a joyous mood, raising $14,500 for the Virtual RUN or Walk fundraising event which began on September 26 with a goal to raise $15,000. The fact that the amount significantly surpassed last year’s goal of $12,000 is a testament to how many believe in JUMP’s work in our community...
