A Special Message from the Economic Development Manager:
State & County Public Health Order Updates & City Small Business Grant Application Deadline July 20th
*NOTE: This message is being distributed to all Thousand Oaks business license holders during the COVID-19 Health Emergency. Please be sure to review State and County updated directives, as necessary.
Greetings Thousand Oaks business community,

Please see below for important information on updates to state and county public health orders, and the fast approaching application deadline for the City’s Small Business Assistance Grant Program (July 20th at 5:00pm).
State & County Public Health Order Updates
You are likely already aware the Governor announced yesterday (July 13th) that all counties must close  indoor  operations for certain industry sectors. These include: dine-in restaurants; wineries and tasting rooms; movie theaters; family entertainment centers (e.g., bowling alleys, miniature golf, batting cages and arcades); zoos and museums; and cardrooms. In 29 counties, including Ventura County, additional sectors are affected unless they can be modified to operate outside or by pick-up.  See state-level details here.

The County has issued an updated Public Health Order (effective July 14th at 8:00am)  to reflect the changes at the state-level. In short, the following industries and activities must close and/or cease unless they can be modified to operate outside or by pick-up: gyms and fitness centers; worship services; protests; offices for non-essential sectors; personal care services (e.g., nail salons, body waxing and tattoo parlors); hair salons and barbershops; and malls.

All businesses are strongly encouraged to review state and county public health orders.
City's Small Business Assistance Grant Application Deadline (July 20th @ 5pm)
On June 23rd, City Council approved the Some of your businesses may be eligible for the  City’s Small Business Assistance Grant Program . The application deadline is next Monday, July 20th at 5:00pm. I encourage you to visit the webpage we have established for the Grant Program to learn more about the criteria and application process.
The challenges you have all weathered these past few months are nothing short of monumental, and you have met these challenges with innovative ideas and solutions. Your City has also taken actions to support you through these incredibly difficult times, including temporary moratoriums on evictions and certain late fees, relaxing delivery hours, creating a process for expanding outdoor operations, and establishing the Small Business Assistance Grant Program. The City remains committed to finding ways to support our business community through these very trying times.

Although we hope all of our businesses will be able to endure and thrive again soon, it is a painful reality that some may ultimately need to close their doors permanently. A few weeks ago, our partners at the Economic Development Collaborative hosted and recorded a webinar focused on business closure and bankruptcy. The webinar also included a short discussion around landlord negotiations and tenant rights. For those businesses that may need to explore this option, this webinar may provide you with some valuable information. You can watch the recording  here

Sincerely,

Haider Alawami
