"There is a place in America to take a stand
It is public education. . .
It is the great common ground. . .It is in public education
that the American dream begins to take shape.” Tom Brokaw

Dear Southern Door Community:

This week was a great week for our Southern Door community. On behalf of the Southern Door County School District and its Board of Education, I would like to thank the residents for their support of our students and staff through the operational referendum that was approved in Tuesday's election. The additional per-pupil funding approved on Tuesday will positively impact our students and staff. This approval is just one of many ways that our community continues to show its support of our students and staff, and believes in our current work to maintain educational excellence. To access the District's full press release, including the election results, please click on this link.

We are completing our first quarter of the school year. We have experienced a slight uptick in close contacts this week, as a result of the increased numbers in the community. We appreciate our families helping us to keep school open by doing the symptom checks each morning, keeping children home when they have symptoms or if family members have symptoms, and continuing to practice good health and safety habits. We also appreciate our families understanding that at times, due to staffing or contact situations, some students may need to go to virtual learning. We realize the inconvenience this can cause; please know that these are difficult situations that are often beyond our control.

We have much to celebrate as a school community! We wish our football team good luck tonight as they play Bonduel for the conference championship, and honor the parents of the team for Parents' Night! In so many ways this year, we have shown that we are Eagle Proud and Eagle Strong.
Yours in Education!

Veterans Day 2020 HELP US SPREAD THE WORD!
Since we can’t hold a big community wide ceremony to celebrate veterans this year, how about sharing your story with the students and staff at Southern Door Schools? Whether you slogged through jungles or crossed the deserts; whether you flew a plane, steer a ship or marched to work; whether you were the ultimate GI Joe or another Radar O’Reilly, we want to hear your story and share it with others on our district’s Facebook page.

We invite veterans in the community to send your story to the District by sending in the following:
1) Name, dates of service, branch of military, photo (current and/or past)
2) Name, dates of service, branch of military, and optional questionnaire with photo (current and/or past)
You can mail your information c/o Southern Door School District, 2073 County DK, Brussels, WI or email it to pvickman@sdsd.k12.wi.us. Pictures will be returned if you provide us with your current address.
