And Happy New Year!!
Wait? What? New Year isn't until January 1st!

But did you know that the church new year begins on Advent Sunday? This year that's this coming Sunday - November 28. Maybe in the stillness of Advent you'd like to prepare - to think and pray about your life, before the pressure of secular 'New Year Resolutions' sets in.

The Bible readings for worship delve into the prophets and John the Baptist because they tell us of a time when the Messiah had not yet come. They take us back to the times of anticipation and longing. They remind us of how dramatic and powerful the Gospel story of God becoming a man really is. They prepare our minds and hearts for the joy of the Incarnation.

We light the first candles in our Advent Wreaths at both services this Sunday. If you haven't picked up your Advent Calendar to mark the days, we'll have them available in Church this Sunday, and at our festive celebration on December 5th.
Advent Quiet Day: “Opening Up to God”
This Coming Tuesday, November 30th, 9:00-12:00
meet in the Board Room
Led by The Rev. Jude Lyons

  • Advent is about waiting, but Advent is not just about waiting!
  • It is about Preparing, about making New Choices.
  • It is about Opening up with Joy to receive the Light of Christ!!!

Come together for a morning of Opening Up to God by awaking our senses through activities, laughter, prayer, and silence. We have been shuttered for so long; let’s open the windows and let in the Light!

To help us with planning - please RSVP to Kristina Pela via email or phone (310-941-2498). Also contact her for more details.
The day is generously sponsored by the ECW - all are welcome!
Advent Wreath-Making
Sunday, December 5th, after 10am coffee hour.
Get into the Holiday Spirit and join us on the 2nd Sunday of Advent for the St. Francis traditional wreath-making! Following the 10:00am service we will gather to make wreaths and enjoy some festive holiday treats. We will have candles, greens and floral wire/pipe cleaners available at the event. However, in the spirit of reuse, reduce and recycle, please bring any foam or metal wreath bases you may have at home to use this year! We will have some available but really want to encourage families to use the ones they already have. If you have any questions, please email Mary Deley.
St. Anne's Guild Holiday Meeting!
Monday, December 6th, at 4:00 pm, Board Room.

TWO activities this year to put you in the holiday mood!
  • Gift exchange. To take part, bring a wrapped gift worth $15, which will be exchanged in the form of a game which will be explained at the meeting.
  • Cookie exchange. If you want to participate, please bring some cookies to share with everyone on a plate. If you want to exchange, have 3 cookies in baggies. As many as your recipe allows. These will be for taking home.
If you would like to share another food item, you may bring that. We shouldn’t fill up on just cookies! We will have a table outside for the food, as we are still under the Covid restrictions. This will be a festive occasion and we hope you will all be able to come.
St Francis Church Advent Taize
Advent Taizé - Back In Person!
Tuesday, December 14th, 7:00pm
