From the Desk of Dale Van Keuren...
Mr. Van Keuren, Principal
It is with a great sense of excitement that I write this as our staff is prepping for the 2019-2020 school year. As you read this, teachers and staff have been working hard to prepare for the school year and be ready when our 9 th graders report on September 3 and all students report on September 4.

This summer has been one of great transitions. Between July 10th and August 14th, I was able to meet with over 100 staff members of Central High School! WOW!

Here are some major themes as I met with these dedicated professionals:

  • Central has a rich and deep history. Many staff members went to school at CHS, their own children attend or went to CHS, and the pride in our school community is large.
  • Central offers a tremendous amount of opportunity for students. Our offering of classes, activities, and athletic teams is second to none.
  • Central has fantastic students and families. Our staff could not say enough about the students that they serve on a daily basis.
As we enter the new school year, please know that I have open lines of communication. If you have a question, concern, or just want to know more about me, please call, email, or make an appointment to sit down and chat.

Thanks again for trust that you show our staff every day. We are ready and exited for the 19-20 school year!
We have both students and staff members who are new to Central this year. A picture of the staff is below - see the slideshow introduction on our web page!

Meet Our New District Administrator,
John Gendron
Mr. Gendron
John Gendron began as the District Administrator of the Central High School District of Westosha on July 1, 2019. Mr. Gendron brings enthusiasm, a passion for developing and nurturing relationships with staff, students, and parents, a strong fiscal background, and a commitment to leadership. He is excited to continue the rich tradition of excellence at Central, while bringing new ideas to move the school forward.

Mr. Gendron brings a wealth of leadership experiences to Central; he was most recently the District Administrator at Randall School District. During his five years at Randall, Mr. Gendron helped pass three school referendums: two operational and one building capital (Facility). His leadership also helped the district rise to new academic success as the district reached the highest rating on the state's school report. Prior to working at Randall, Mr. Gendron was the District Administrator at Riverview School in Silver Lake, WI; he also served as the middle school principal at Elkhorn. Mr. Gendron's educational career began in Grayslake, IL where he worked an 8th grade math teacher, athletic director, and high school coach.

Mr. Gendron earned his bachelor of arts in education from UW Whitewater; he received his masters in educational leadership from Aurora University and his District Administrator license from Marquette University.

Mr. Gendron is active in community and education circles. He has been involved in multiple Kenosha County activities for the past 20 years. He is an active coach and mentor to children in the community as he has served as a volunteer coach for many teams and organizations.

John is married to Kristen and they have three wonderful children: Jared, Kyle, and Kaleb. They reside in Silver Lake, WI where Kristen is a teacher at Riverview.

Mr. Gendron is honored to serve Central High School. He states, "Central is a highly successful school with outstanding teachers and students. The community is very proud of the school and its traditions; I am excited to build on the many strengths and helping Central take the next step to excellence." He continued to say, "I look forward to building relationships with our community and students, creating a well-defined vision for our school, and building collaborative relationships with our K-8 feeder schools."

Bash on the Grass
Friday, October 4!
Community. It's sharing a warm, salted pretzel from the concession stand. It's a close game of corn hole in the parking lot. It's what makes every football game extra special.

As part of Central's Association of Business Students (ABS), we wanted to bring the community together for some family fun. This is why this year we're planning the BASH ON THE GRASS! The Bash offers something for everyone including parents, kids, high school students, and Central alumni of all ages! Think food, carnival games, obstacle courses, and more! Only $5 to enter and all proceeds will be contributed to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

We hope you'll join us for the Bash on the Grass on Friday, October 4th, from 4 to 6:30 p.m., right before the Homecoming football game!

Yearbooks Orders Due!
It's that time of year! Order your yearbook, purchase your senior's baby ad, and send in your senior pictures! All of these must be done digitally from the Westosha Central  website. The cost of the yearbook is $65. Baby ads have changed and are now available in a variety of sizes- so cost will vary based on the size ad you choose.

Also new for the Ads section is the option to purchase an ad for your child's friend group, team, or club. This offers the opportunity to decide which pictures are featured and what the message to the group is!

Senior pictures must be submitted on our website:

  • Click Students tab and scroll down to Senior Photos link (Senior Picture Upload).
  • IMPORTANT: If you do not submit the picture digitally, or have the photographer submit the photo, the yearbook staff will feature your student's school I.D. photo.

If you have any questions, please email yearbook@westosha.k12.wi.us. No pictures will be accepted at this email.

Important Information for Parents of AP Students:
AP is Changing in 2019-2020

Beginning in the 2019-20 school year, the AP Program is introducing new resources and processes designed to help students earn college credit and placement.

Here's what you and your student need to know:
  • This year students will be required to complete an online enrollment into their AP class sections. This will be done during class by September 13. It is important to note that by default, their enrollment will also register them for the AP Exam.
  • Exam registrations are due by October 4. This means that if a student is not going to take an AP Exam, that information must be communicated to Mrs. Haluzak or Mrs. Netzer-Jensen prior to October 4. Doing so will avoid the $94.00 Exam Fee or $40.00 Cancellation Fee. The only exception is AP Microeconomics, which is a semester two course.
  • The exam fee isn't changing. However, there will be a $40 fee for Late Registration (after Nov. 14th) and a $40 Cancellation Fee for an unused exam.
  • Westosha Central High will collect Exam Fees by November 26. Fees may be paid through Infinite Campus or by cash or check submitted to Mrs. Haluzak in the District Office.
  • AP Exams will continue to be given in May.
  • Students will get personalized feedback through new digital tools that provide daily support for every AP classroom. Their teachers will be able to track their performance through the year using monthly personal progress checks.

Your student will need a College Board account. All College Board accounts are connected through one account, so if your student created one for the PSAT/NMSQT, SAT, or College Board Opportunity Scholarships, they're all set. They'll just need to have their username name and password available. If they don't have an account, they will create one during their AP course.
