Let's just "Fall" for tap dance, ok?
November! Wow, time really does fly by when you're so busy you don't even notice that it's now the Fall (my favorite season). You can have Halloween, I'm interested in Thanksgiving!
So, the really BIG news is that the ATDF has just donated it's entire archives to the Jerome Robbins Dance Division of the New York Public Library at Lincoln Center. This is a monumental moment and a monumental amount of work and history of my career, as well as the career of Brenda Bufalino and the American Tap Dance Orchestra and then the American Tap Dance Foundation. Stay tuned for future announcements of official events in celebration of this amazing milestone and when the archives will be available to the public.
Meanwhile, we have the fourth monthly collaborative event presented at Birdland Jazz Club coming up on November 3rd. It's called CrackerJazz and it's based on the Ellington/Strayhorn take on Tchiakovsky's Nutcracker. The Duke Ellington Center for the Arts and the American Tap Dance Foundation have joined forces and we're having such a hoot putting these programs together. Join us if you can. You can see more of the details below.
Also, we are starting a new program for Intermediate/Advanced Professionals and the series will start with a special (5) week workshop with Barbara Duffy coming up on November 7th that shouldn't be missed.
Our next Tap Explorations event at the American Tap Dance Center on December 7th, is an afternoon with the amazing Mercedes Ellington who will be talking about her career with a special focus on her time with the June Taylor Dancers.
Lastly, it's not to soon to pencil in and hold the dates for our upcoming
Tap Dance Carnival in February, the annual
Dance Parade and our
Tap City Youth Concert in May, the
Adult Student Showcase in June and
Tap City's Twentieth Anniversary Festival and our annual
Tap Teacher Training program held in July.
Looking forward to seeing you all at these events and of course I'll also see you in the funny papers,
Tony Waag Artistic Director
