District News:

Tickets for Athletic Events:
  • district employees are able to use their district ID badge to get themselves and a guest into any home EHS game.
  • season tickets for the 2019-20 season are adults $70, grade school $35
  • football-only season tickets are adults $16, grade school $12
  • season tickets can be purchased at Emporia High School and the Community Relations Office at Mary Herbert Education Center
  • individual game tickets can be purchased at each event, adults $5, students $4

KPERS Optional Life Insurance:
KPERS Optional Life Insurance open enrollment is September 1-30.  As part of your KPERS benefits, you have the opportunity to purchase additional coverage beyond KPERS basic life insurance.  You can decide how much you need and pay your premiums through payroll deduction. Personal Illness Pool:
The deadline to start your involvement in the Personal Illness Pool is Tuesday, October 1. All employees on contract or work agreement are eligible to participate.  If you are already participating in the pool, it will remain in effect as long as you are with USD 253, unless you inform the Payroll Office that you no longer wish to participate. Additional information will be emailed to all employees in a few days.  If you have questions, email

September 15 paycheck:
The September 15 paycheck is the first payroll for all certified employees in the current contract year.  Be sure to check your pay stub in Skyward to make sure all of your deductions are correct. If you have questions, call Stephanie Morgan at 341-2228 or Erica Markley at 341-2428 in the Payroll Office.

October 1 Early Retirement:
October 1st is the deadline for staff to submit to the Board of Education early notification for resignation or retirement and receive the $1,000 bonus.

Bond Publication Update:
Kevin Case, Superintendent, provided updates on the bond publication timeline and a calendar for the November 5 general election.  For more details click on the links below:
Early Learning Center Update:
Zach Snethen of HTK Architects provided an overview and timeline for moving forward on a new Early Learning Center.  HTK is working to incorporate key needs as determined by the task force and will gather additional input from all stakeholders and staff through input sessions. During this process, the district will determine what early learning outcomes will be achieved, while ensuring the new center meets the needs of today's early learning students.  Additionally, Snethen provided a map showing possible site options for building a new center.
