High Holidays 2019/5780

The Days of Awe blend reflecting on the past and looking toward the future as we reaffirm our sacred relationships. We are excited to invite you to join us for the Days of Awe, and to support an increasingly vibrant and diverse Jewish community in the city. We are proud and excited to continue our services for the Days of Awe at the Bethel Community Transformation Center (BCTC), and will conclude Yom Kippur by studying, praying, and breaking the fast with our neighbors from Congregation T'chiyah and the Reconstructionist Congregation of Detroit. Please join us as we usher in the New Year. Please view our  schedule of services and  FAQ.

A message from Rabbi Silverman

I am looking forward to seeing many of you as we start the new year together. As you know, you are all warmly invited to come and to bring guests as we welcome and celebrate the diversity of the IADS family. As you read this, please also take a moment to RSVP.

The fall chagim (holidays) are a time of joy and renewal. Their transformative power can also get lost in the logistics of service times and holiday meal menus. As we immerse in the Yamim Noraim (Days of Awe) let's make sure to seek and dive into moments of awe and wonder. Let's take the time to catch up with someone we haven't seen much this year, finally mend a broken relationship, and give ourselves space to breathe. The chagim give us the tools to refocus on what matters most to us, but only if we begin to open ourselves, and yes, our schedules, to what they can teach us.

I pray that the chagim will give us the strength to strive for healing, goodness, and love. L'shanah Tovah U'metukah--May each of us have a good and sweet new year.

Call for Mi Shebeirach

During our Shabbat morning worship, we read the names of people in our community who are in need of healing. As we invoke God's blessing, we also become more aware of the people who could use a little extra care. Please let us know if you would like us to read the name of a loved one.
