The slightly cooler (and darker) mornings remind us that a change of seasons is not that far away. The lower temperatures and changing colors make it even more enjoyable for your customers to be outside relaxing by their pond or water feature! Which also means it's a great time of year to touch base with them about their future project plans for this fall or next season.

We wanted to remind you beginning next Tuesday, Sept. 3 we will be changing to our fall hours, Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. This month's newsletter includes an article about Pondemonium, news about True Pump's latest award, some information on blue-green algae, a product update, and this month's Aquascape video.

Happy Pondering,

The True Pump Team

Pondemonium 2019
Another Pondemonium is in the books! Quite a few people said this one was the best one ever. There were both educational and hands-on classes on a variety of topics from building your team to product classes to recreational swim pond design. Just as valuable as the classes is the networking that takes place after hours. For those who have attended multiple times it feels a bit like a family reunion. I am always inspired by the camaraderie and the willingness of everyone to share both their problems and insights into operating their businesses. I like how Mike Herrmann of Colorado Pond Pros put it, " Getting better together and the relationships we've built is what makes Pondemonium worthwhile."

If you couldn't make it to Pondemonium this year, how about attending Aquascape Academy this winter? It's an information packed 24+ hours where you can dig into the topics most important for your business in this same type of environment.

Congratulations!
We would like to congratulate four of our Colorado customers who were recognized by Aquascape at Pondemonium. BR&D Landscape (pictured below) was named the #1 Aquascape contractor in the country! Colorado Pond Pros was the #11 contractor, Rocky Mountain Waterscape was the #22 contractor, and Hiner Outdoor Living was the #25 contractor/retailer. Very proud of all these companies and what they've accomplished!

True Pump received an Aquascape Leadership Award recognizing us as the #1 distributor in the Central Plains Region. Thanks go out to our incredible team and all our loyal customers, we couldn't have done it without all of you!

We love our CAC's!
Whether it's Pondemonium or a Rockies game, there's nothing better than hanging out with this incredible group of Colorado Certified Aquascape Contractors!

Product Update
Last week at Pondemonium we saw a preview of some of the products coming for 2020 including some new pumps, decorative items and an Aquascape App you can use to control both pumps and lights! Watch for more detailed information in future newsletters.

We will not be ordering any more fish or aquatic plants this season but we do still have some of both in stock. Give us a call or stop by soon before they're all gone!

A reminder that we now have pond netting in bulk sizes to allow you to customize the net for each individual homeowner's pond.
Blue green algae
There's been a lot of news lately about blue-green algae and it's harmful effects. Blue-green algae isn't really algae at all, it's actually cyanobacteria. Cyanobacteria blooms are most common in ponds that receive runoff containing fertilizers and animal waste. Normally these blooms are bright green in color and described as looking like floating paint.

Here's further information from the Colorado Department of Public Health: "Blue-green algae are a kind of bacteria common in Colorado waters. Water nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus help algae grow and support fish and other aquatic life.  But too much nitrogen and phosphorus in the water allows blue-green algae to grow quickly and form blooms and scums. Blooms can occur anytime but are most common during hot, sunny weather and in slow-moving water bodies such as lakes. Some algae blooms produce toxins (poisons) that can cause illness in humans, pets, waterfowl, and other animals that come in contact with the algae."

We certainly understand people's concerns but a properly constructed backyard pond should not receive excessive runoff and is constantly being recirculated so it would be almost impossible for cyanobacteria to bloom there. Aquascape is working on publishing more information on this topic and we will pass that along as soon as we receive it.
