Colonial High School

Both Colonial campuses will be closed on Monday and Tuesday due to the Labor Day holiday and Hurricane Dorian. Please check the OCPS website for further updates on the storm and its impact on school operations. As of early Sunday evening, classes were set to resume on Wednesday, September 4 but that will depend on the storm's trajectory. The school district might announce further closures at a later time.

This past week we have already finished the third school week of the quarter. Below you will find highlights from the week and some important reminders from our College and Career Center for the Class of 2020.

Given the hurricane nearing Florida's east coast, I hope this finds you and your family well. Again, please check the OCPS website for updates.

It's Great to be a Grenadier!

State of the Schools Address

Latinos in Action

Our Latinos in Action students are discussing course goals and objectives with each other.  Each student reflected on the vision and mission of the program. Latinos in Action is a service learning course designed to foster leadership skills in our students.

Curriculum

Led by Assistant Principal, Mrs. Parsons and Curriculum Resource Teacher, Mr. Lay, our 9th and 10th grade English Language Arts teachers are analyzing FSA ELA data and designing standards-based lessons.

Grenadier Athletics

Girls' Volleyball
Congratulations to our girls' Junior Varsity and Varsity Volleyball teams in their match against Wekiva High School. Both teams won their first game against the Mustangs at home this past Tuesday!

Varsity Football
Our Grenadier football team played the Lake Nona Lions on Friday; our Cheerleading team execute lifts, throws, and tumbling to encourage the team!

Bridge Rally

Our first bridge rally pumped up the football team to prepare for Friday night's game against the LNHS Lions.  Our band, led by Director Chapkin, played the team fight song and our cheerleaders brought the spirit!

Main Campus Spotlight . . .
Meet our Main Campus School Resource Officers!

Officers Barrick (left) and Dishuk (right) monitor student safety each day on our main campus.  Both officers have worked as SROs for the past three years with OCPS schools. When asked why he loves his job, Officer Barrick stated that working with our Grenadier students is the best part of his day.  Officer Dishuk explained that he likes being a positive role model for kids.

Our SROs encourage our parents and students to reach out and talk to them, and remember, these officers are here every school day to help provide a safe learning and working environment at Colonial!

Meanwhile, on the 9th Grade Center Campus . . .

Ms. Gonzalez Collazo is reviewing central idea and key details with her first year English Language Learners.

The front office staff ensure that our parents and freshmen have access to needed resources and information.  If a parent doesn't know who to contact or ask about a specific issue, the bulletin board directs them to the right person on campus.

Deputy Chattic has worked as a School Resource Officer for two years.  He loves to see the students at the 9th Grade Center getting to class on time!

Closing Image of the Week . . .
Ms. Gonzalez's Classroom

The picture below was taken of a wall in the classroom of Ms. Gonzalez, a brand new English Language Arts teacher.  The physical layout and decorations within each classroom on our campus speak to the philosophy of our teachers.  We are so fortunate that our students get to learn each day with teachers who encourage, challenge, and care about them.
