Pints with a Purpose: Nelsonville Farmers Market

Every month, Devil's Kettle Brewing Company hosts their Pints with a Purpose event, with $1.00 from each pint purchased being donated to a noble cause or organization. 

On August 17th, Devil's Kettle with be hosting their August event benefiting the Nelsonville Farmers MarketThis relatively new market is growing in size every year and needs all of our support to keep growing and offering fresh produce to Nelsonville residents! 

Devil's Kettle has 18 craft beers on tap, as well as housemade rootbeer, ginger ale, and cold-brewed coffee. 
  
National Farmers Market Week

National Farmers Market Week is celebrated across the country from August 7 through August 13, 2016. It's a time to celebrate the farmers, ranchers and local food producers as well as the communities that make them happen.

This year, there's also the #LoveMyMarket Instagram contest! The Farmers Market Coalition is challenging market lovers to post c reative photos incorporating FMC's "I Heart Farmers Markets" temporary tattoos. These tattoos will be available soon at the Athens Farmers Market & the Nelsonville Farmers Market.

It's easy to enter:
1. Take a photo of yourself, a farmer, shopper, puppy, baby, tomato - anyone or anything! - wearing a tattoo
2. Post the photo to Instagram with the hashtag #LoveMyMarket

Contest deadline is August 31, 2016. When can you start posting? Now!

Fun prizes (and bragging rights) will be awarded to the photographers AND markets featured in the winning photos. Winners will be announced by September 16, 2016.

You've probably heard us talking a lot recently about the 5th Annual Real Food Real Local Conference that took place 2 weeks ago.

The Chesterhill Produce Auction takes place every Monday and Thursday during the summer months. Auction starts at 4:00 PM. Learn How to Make Effective Presentations with PowerPoint & Prezi. The Ohio SBDC & Ohio University's Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs are partnering up to provide this free workshop that will teach users how to use PowerPoint & Prezi to create presentation materials to showcase their businesses. Training will take place at the Tri County Adult Career Center at 15676 St. Rt. 691 in Nelsonville from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM with a free hour for lunch. Within the first 30 days, CHIP can help to lower cholesterol, reduce excess weight, stabilize blood sugar, and improve dietary choices. Live Healthy Appalachia is presenting a free informational session where you can meet your local CHIP facilitators, Live Healthy Appalachia staff, and CHIP Alumni who will be on hand to share their stories about how CHIP has changed their lives. The Athens Food Policy Council is holding their quarterly full-council meeting. OU student/council intern will be presenting her findings from her summer research project on the local Athens food system & how the Food Policy Council can be more effective in their work.

Food is Medicine Lecture: Dr. Salvatore Lacagnina will teach about the links between nutrition, health, and disease. Using clinical research, Dr. Sal will discuss the role of food in treating, reversing, and preventing common chronic illnesses and cancers. The talk will also address how patients can work toward their individual nutrition and lifestyle goals for optimal health. 
Live Healthy Appalachia and Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine are providing this lecture and plant-based dinner at the Ohio University Inn Ballroom. Cost is $30. Pre-registering by August 11 is required. Visit livehealthyappalachia.org or call 740-856-6100 to register.
