YOUR WEEKLY NEWS & UPDATES

Happy last week of summer! We can almost smell that fall air. We knew summer was officially winding down when a customer yesterday asked for a 'cold weather red' recommendation. And we're now just one month out from our big fall tasting - be sure to reserve a ticket, as once those tickets are gone you're banished to the wait list!

A few new arrival highlights: 2015 releases from Vietti are here, a few new organic gems from Costers del Segre (see below if you have no idea where that is), and more fall and Vikings themed beer/ciders than we care to acknowledge. See the list below for a complete rundown.

STAFF PICKS FOR YOUR LABOR DAY BBQ
David's Pick

Fascino Organic Prosecco N/V - $16.99

This week's theme is barbecue. Even though I've been writing about al fresco wines all summer, I may have missed the fact that every outdoor party needs a kick off, especially the last hooray of Summer. This, of course, means bubbles. I think the Fascino Prosecco is the perfect choice for this. Temperature controlled fermentation and organic grapes insures a vibrant fruit profile. It's soft and refreshing with a clean floral edge. Perfect for an afternoon aperitif or to keep the cook hydrated.

Teutonic Wine Co. Foiled Cucumber, Columbia Gorge 2018 - $18.99

Cool climate wines, all the time! This is the motto of husband and wife founders of Teutonic Wine Company, Barnaby and Olga Tuttle. Dedicated to German-style wines in Oregon, their Foiled Cucumber White Wine is a great introduction to these beautiful wines.
The 2018 vintage is 100% Gewurztraminer and is from the Pear Blossom Vineyard. As is true with all of Teutonic's single vineyards, dry-farming is employed to make the vines reach down deep for full expression of the place and only wild yeasts from that vineyard are used for fermentation, as well as only neutral barrels used for aging. All this is to ensure that the wine is of a certain "place".
The resultant wine from the bottle has aromas of honeydew melon, followed by crisp cool-climate acidity balanced by a rich palate of peach and nectarine, perfect to pair with a spicy seafood dish.

Chateau du Petit Thouars Les Georges Chinon 2016 - $21.99

I for one, am not ready to let go of summer - what better way to hang on than to drink glass of wine that smells like you stuck your nose in a bouquet of flowers?! The fruit is all sun ripened raspberries and tart cherries from the farmers market and the finish lingers like we hope the warm weather will. So celebrate summer and share this with friends while standing on some grass waiting for the grill to finish those brats!
Madison's Pick

Domaine Faury St. Joseph 2017 - $27.99

Anyone that knows me will know that I always want to eat burgers and drink syrah, so naturally this my Labor Day BBQ wine of choice. This is a real father and son production - they only 'recently' started bottling and selling wine beyond the local audience in 1979. The wines have a real liveliness and freshness not always typical to the Northern Rhone, a region from which its becoming increasingly difficult to find 'everyday' wines.
Doug's Pick

Llenca Plana Monsant 2016 - $19.99

This Carignan dominant blend from the region of Montsant, just outside of Priorat, straddles that line between elegance and power. It's bright enough to be a thirst quenching tipple while sturdy enough to pair with bar-b-que.
