Django Girls: September 14 Coding Workshop
We will be hosting a Django Girls Tulsa Coding Workshop on September 13-14 at Central Library.

If you identify as a woman and have a laptop to use for the workshop, you can apply for our event! You don't need to know any technical stuff - our workshop if for people who are new to programming. Men can also apply for the workshop.
 
Food will be provided. A comfort room is available for breastfeeding mothers. To join us, head on over to DjangoGirls.org/Tulsa and fill out our application today!
September 19, Tech Talk: Practical DNS
Join Julia Layne of SheCodes Tulsa as she discusses the basics of the Domain Name System (DNS) on Thursday, September 19 at noon. She will cover the practical steps of how to set up a new domain with shared hosting, github.io, and redirecting.

This talk will be of interest to you whether you are a technology expert, enthusiast, or just want to learn more about how the internet works.
Introduction to Finding Grants
Are you new to the field of grant seeking? Join us Wednesday, September 11 at 6:30 p.m. for an Introduction to Finding Grants. Discover what funders are looking for in nonprofits seeking grants and how to find potential funders.

This class covers the 10 most important things you need to know about finding grants, including: who funds nonprofits and what are their motivations, what funders really want to know about the organizations they are interested in funding, and how to identify potential funders and make the first approach.
This class will end 30 minutes of hands-on, guided online grant research.
Photoshop Lab: Andy Warhol Portraits
Photoshop is a powerful software. It can be hard to know where to start. Join us Tuesday, September 17 at 2:30 p.m. as we cover the basics of Adobe Photoshop and create Andy Warhol-style portraits.

We will use layers, rulers, filters, and more to create fun selfies in this Photoshop Lab.
National Day of Civic Hacking, September 21
Join Code for Tulsa on Saturday, September 21 at 36 Degrees North for their National Day of Civic Hacking. The Code for Tulsa team will tell you all about the criminal justice projects they are working on and how you can be involved.

The National Day of Civic Hacking (NDoCH), which started in 2013, is a day of action led by Code for America that brings together civic leaders, public servants, designers, coders, and data scientists to partner with our local government and tackle some of Tulsa's toughest challenges.
This year’s theme is “Civic Action for Justice” and focuses on the criminal justice system and automatic record clearance as a path to remove barriers to employment, housing, and education for justice-impacted people.
Digital Literacy Lab Orientations
Want to learn more about the American Electric Power Foundation Digital Literacy Lab? Come and see what we're about!

Join us at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11 or at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, September 30 for a Digital Literacy Lab Orientation at Central Library.

After attending an Orientation, you gain access to our computers with the full Adobe Creative Suite, digitization equipment, and more!
RailsBridge Tulsa: Coding Workshop for Women
Central Library will be hosting a free workshop intended to reach out to women who are interested in learning modern Web Development on October 4-5. In this workshop, we'll take you through the process of building a complete web application using Ruby on Rails.

By the end of the day, you'll have an application that connects to a database, reads and writes data, and renders HTML in a browser.

We'll meet up Friday to install all of the software you need, and then spend Saturday learning and writing code. Programmers of all skill levels are welcome.

Attendees will need to bring their own laptop.

DIY Digitization, September 30
Are you looking to save your family history in a more updated format? Learn how you can use our digitization equipment in the Digital Literacy Lab to archive your family history projects and more.

Join us Monday, September 30 at 7:00 p.m. for this monthly class. We do hands-on demonstrations of Digital Literacy Lab equipment and talk about how you can use our space to accomplish your digitization projects.

Tulsa People featured the Digital Literacy Lab in its most recent magazine. Tulsa City-County Library was awarded the 2019 Library of the Future Award for its Digital Literacy Lab. This award is given by the American Library Association and Information Today, Inc. annually to recognize innovative planning, applications, or development of focused patron support relating to information technology in libraries.
