February 28 - Last day to file for summer 2020 graduation with early registration option
March 1 - Graduation filing period for fall 2020 to be considered for early registration option. For information criteria: www.dvc.edu/graduation (filing period ends April 15)
March 1 - Deadline to file AA/AS degree or certificate for spring 2020
March 29 - April 4 - Spring recess - no classes in session - no Saturday or Sunday classes
Student Wellness Support
The DVC student wellness and mental health program can provide you with short-term help and support to stay in school and make it through the term. DVC Wellness counselors are primarily Masters of Family Therapy interns. Black History Month

We invite you to celebrate Black History Month at DVC ! There are several events each week in February, and all events are open to every member of the DVC Community.

  • This Wednesday, February 19, we welcome Don Reed in a performance of "The Kipling Hotel" in the PAC from 11am - 12:30pm.

  • We will host our first-ever Black History Month Edit-a-thon to contribute to and update Wikipedia entries related to African American and African Diasporic history and culture on Thursday, February 20, 12 - 5pm in L202 and L218. 

  • Next week don't miss "Election 2020: Let’s Talk About Race and Gender" with Dr. Sangha Niyogi and Dr. Albert Ponce on Tuesday, February 25, 12:45 - 1:45pm in the Diablo Room.

  • There will also be a screening of Boots Riley’s film "Sorry to Bother You" on Tuesday, February 25, 4 - 7pm in the Forum (don't miss Boots Riley when he comes to DVC on March 12 from 12:45 - 2:10pm).

  • The Black Employee Network and AAMLP will host "I Am Not Your N-Word," on Thursday, February 27, 1 - 3pm in the Multicultural Center, Student Union Building.

Black History Month Activities are co-sponsored by the DVC Umoja Program, the Equity Speaker Series, DVC Library, and DVC Student Services, African American Male Leadership Program (AAMLP), and Black Employment Network (BEN).
Become a student ambassador
Student Ambassadors provide peer support and perform a variety of fun and important jobs at DVC, such as:
  • helping students at Welcome Services and the Enrollment Lab, 
  • representing DVC at fairs and open houses,
  • leading campus tours, 
  • giving presentations to prospective students and their parents,
  • using social media to connect with our campus community and future students.
Paid positions are available at Pleasant Hill and San Ramon.

Financial aid announcements
The March 2 priority deadline for state financial aid is coming up. Be sure to submit your 2020-21 FASFA/CADAA by the priority deadline - You may qualify for an additional $6000 in state aid. Please remember that you will need 2018 tax/income information on hand when completing your financial aid application

First Time + Full Time = Free Tuition
Are you a first time college student? If so, check out the First Time + Full Time = Free Tuition (FT3) program. You may qualify for free tuition for up to two academic years! Spring FT3 pledge deadline is April 1. Learn more at FT3 .

Counseling announcements

Counseling appointments 
Achieving success begins with a plan. Now is a great time to meet with a counselor to develop an ed plan or revise your existing one for the upcoming summer and fall terms. When you make an education plan with a counselor, you create a roadmap of classes you will take each term. This roadmap prevents you from taking unnecessary courses and can help you save time and money. Schedule an appointment online or at Counseling Services in the Student Services Building. 

Deadline reminders 
Students who are earning an AA/AS/ADT degree at the end of spring MUST apply for it no later than March 1 . Complete the Petition for the AA/AS degree - and submit the form to the Admissions and Records Office OR complete the electronic version on your InSite Portal when you click the tile that says “Graduation.” It is very easy to complete and free!

Associate degree filing
Don't forget to file for your associate degree SOON if you're completing requirements for your degree this term! Drop into Career and Transfer Services (SSC-202) for help applying no later than March 1 to check that you're on track to earn an Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT).

Educational Talent Search and Upward Bound seek paid tutors and instructional assistants
We are seeking paid tutor/instructional assistants to help middle and high school students at local schools for the spring and summer. Tutors/instructional assistants must travel to school sites. 

Math, science, Spanish, and history tutors/instructional assistants needed to work with high school students (in class and small groups) for 8-10 hours a week (8am-5pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and monthly on Saturdays). 

English and math tutor/instructional assistants needed to work with middle school (in class only) for 5-10 hours a week, Monday - Friday between 8:30am-2:30pm.

DVC Food Pantry
The DVC Food Pantry serves as a free supplemental food resource for all students who may need it. This service is made possible by DVC Foundation donations and grants, employee payroll deductions, Kaiser Permanente, Whole Foods 365, Safeway, DVC Retirees Association Board, Community Health Fund and the Chancellor's Office. The DVC Food Pantry is open Monday - Thursday, 10:30am - 6pm and is located on the first floor of the Student Union inside the Multicultural Center.

DVCsync serves as the online portal for all clubs, Associated Students of DVC (ASDVC), and the Inter-Club Council. This online tool creates one central location for all clubs. It enriches communication for all students and streamlines club program application, renewal, and event requests. Join your student government
Have you thought of joining student government? Learn how to become a senator of the Associated Students of Diablo Valley College (ASDVC) by attending a one-hour information session the first two weeks of school.

Student trustee
T he next district student trustee will be a DVC student. The student trustee serves on the Contra Costa Community College Governing Board, attends monthly board meetings, participates in leadership development, and serves as the student voice for all students in our district. The term is from June 1, 2020 - May 30, 2021 . If you are interested in more information contact Todd Farr in Student Life. Candidate materials will be available Tuesday, March 10 with information sessions on March 18 and March 19 in the Student Union. Applications are due on Friday, March 20, 2020 by 12:30 pm in the Student Union.
Smoke Free DVC
Diablo Valley College is now a Tobacco-Free Institution
DVC is committed to promoting the good health of our students, staff and broader community by providing a healthy environment in which to learn and work. Given the negative health impacts of tobacco and similar product use, the Governing Board has established policy (GBP #2045) designating DVC as a tobacco-free institution. Therefore: 
Smoking, smoking substitutes, smoke inducing devices and vaping are considered a health hazard and are prohibited on all college property. This includes, but is not limited to, products containing tobacco or nicotine, e-cigarettes, cigars, clove cigarettes, smokeless tobacco, snuff, chew packets, hookah smoking, personal vaporizers/electronic smoking devices, marijuana and controlled substances regulated under federal law. 

This policy shall apply to all students, employees, volunteers, vendors, consultants, agents, contractors, and visitors on Diablo Valley College property as defined above. Consistent with Government Code 7597.1, the Governing Board has imposed fines and set enforcement standards for DVC in order to ensure a tobacco-free environment.

Recreational marijuana is legal in California, but it is still prohibited on all Contra Costa Community College District property, colleges and campuses.

Policy on skateboarding, skating, and bicycling on campus
In accordance with V.C. 21113(f), the use of bicycles, motorized bicycles, electric bicycles, skateboards, electrically motorized boards, and roller skates on the DVC campus is strictly prohibited.
