AN UNUSUAL SEPTEMBER

Welcome to September, traditionally back-to-school time for our teens to meet old and new friends and teachers. Well, this year looks a bit different, as evidenced by the new set up at Teen Services Teen Center. Teens are sitting at least 6 feet apart, wearing masks and using hand sanitizer every five minutes with their headphones attached to the ubiquitous Chromebook.

The Boys & Girls Clubs' teen staff (Eric and Yessenia) have moved in with us and we are jointly providing a space for teens to do their Distance Learning that is socially distanced and COVID safe, but still within viewing distance of their friends and our joint staff. We are happy to provide a comfortable space away from home with good internet connections. And we are offering some afterschool programs and services within the COVID guidelines - building a garden, cooking with Chef Paloma, College and Career exploration and a safe place to hang out, especially outdoors.

I'm grateful for the wonderful people I work with, including our new space-mates from the BGC. We all have a heart for teens and will do all we can to help them succeed in work and in life.

Teen Services and the Boys & Girls Clubs are in the process of learning more about each other, finding where we can enhance each other's missions and how we can put our Valley's teens first. It's an exciting journey and a bright, positive spot in all the negativity surrounding us.

Thank you for your continued support and please call or email me at any time if you have any questions or comments.

In Kindness,

TEEN SERVICES WELCOMES DARIO AGUILAR TO ITS BOARD

The TSS Board is happy to announce that Dario Aguilar has joined our Board of Directors. Dario was born in Avocado Country, Michoacan, Mexico. At eight years old, he and his family migrated to Oregon where he grew up and eventually attended college in the Portland metro area.

Dario's passion has always been working directly with youth - serving as a positive role model, coach, and mentor. After moving to Sonoma County, he worked with Verity and Social Advocates for Youth as a Job Development Coordinator before joining the Nelson Staffing team bringing an innovative approach to recruiting. Dario brings unique experiences in developing work-based learning opportunities and job placement that will help students explore careers and develop important skills. He recently started HYPE Print Lab (Helping Young People Excel) which is a social enterprise that specializes in printing custom apparel. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling with his wife Veronica , spending time with their almost 3-year old son Leo, and volunteering through the Santa Rosa Active 20-30 Club #50.
