It is the fourth annual Bed Blitz event, a community-driven project sponsored by The Tool Library, YouthBuild McLean County, and West Bloomington Revitalization Project, where we will be building beds for children in the McLean County area. The day of the event is October 12, 2019 and is at Youthbuild. To make this event a success, we need help from the community to donate items that will be included with each bed frame and mattress.

Julie Robinson of FCC has signed up a team to participate in the Bed Blitz,

and for FCC to donate ten new pillows to the effort.

The Mental Health First Aid class teaches a five-step action plan to offer initial help to people with the signs and symptoms of a mental illness or in a crisis, and to connect them with the appropriate care.  Mental Health First Aid is for anyone:  parents, neighbors, college students, teachers, members of faith communities, first-responders, and caring citizens.

We are looking for volunteers for our Grandparents are Gifts program, a small group reading program at the Boys & Girls Club of Bloomington-Normal.  Come as often as you like.  To get involved, contact Jenny Hall at jhall@bgcbn.org or by calling 309-829-3034 x109.

Advocate BroMenn Medical Center is looking for volunteers to help with a vegetable garden and fruit orchard to benefit Community Health Care Clinic patients and local food pantries. We are asking each group to sign up to commit to weeding the garden as needed over the course of a week.  

You are welcome to sign up for more than one week!

 

The garden is located two blocks north of Advocate BroMenn at 902 S. Franklin Avenue, Normal, 61761, behind the Community Health Care Clinic. Volunteers should bring their own work gloves and a garbage bag for the weeds. (Note that the sign-up is for the entire week, not just one day.)

Marcfirst's Host Home program assists individuals with developmental disabilities of all ages in McLean County with finding a home designed to encourage independence in a family environment. Host Home Providers open their homes up to individuals supported, allowing the individuals to be immersed in both community and family life. Individuals are matched with a Host Home Provider based on a variety of likes and dislikes.

Host Home providers receive complex training in health and safety, implementation of service plans, and person-centered services. This ensures a quality relationship of support and guidance. Marcfirst staff will visit all homes a minimum of three times per month, checking that the home is safe and individual needs are being met.

Host Home Providers are independent contractors who will be compensated for opening their home to an individual with a developmental disability. Providers make a difference in a person with a disability's life from within their home, by helping individuals achieve their goals, create relationships within the community, and live more independently!
