Alexander 4-H Clubs
Now is a great time to enroll in a 4-H Club!!  Many clubs take the summer months off and they begin meeting again in September.  Below you will find a link to the different 4-H Clubs and information on their meetings.  If you have any questions feel free to contact the N.C. Cooperative Extension -Alexander County Center at 828-632-3125.  

Alexander 4-H County Council Meeting

Meeting will be held Tuesday, September 24th at 4:00 p.m. at the N.C. Cooperative Extension-Alexander County Center.  (Please make sure to attend if you are a County Council Officer or a 4-H Club Officer)


2019 NC Dairy Photo Contest
The Dairy Photo Contest allows youth to put their creative talents to use in developing a message about the dairy industry for the consumer public.  In design and development of the project, youth learn a great deal about the dairy industry.  The contest is supported by The Dairy Alliance and incorporates their June dairy theme.  

Instead of submitting posters like they have in years past, this year participants will submit their original photographs that incorporate a new theme and logo.  The theme for the 2019 Dairy Photo Contest is "Dairy is in our DNA".  

Competition in this contest will be conduced on an individual basis in Division I (9-12 years of age), Division II (13-15 years of age) and Division III (16-19 years of age) at the county and state level.  Youth in Division IV (5-8 years of age) will participate on a non-competitie basis at the county level only.

Attention 4-H Volunteers!!

-South Central District 4-H Volunteer Leaders Association Fall Day will be held Saturday, November 2nd at N.C. Cooperative Extension-Anson County Center (if you would like to present a workshop please contact the Alexander County Center by the last day of September to get paperwork submitted for your workshop)

 

-State 4-H Volunteers Conference will be January 31- February 2, 2020 at the Hilton Durham.  More information will be coming.



4-H in the  News
It has been a very busy summer with County, District and State 4-H Events.  Below is a recap of the summer:

  • June 10-12 NC 4-H held its annual Citizenship North Carolina Focus in Raleigh, NC.  Anna Beth Harris attended this event.  They completed service projects as well as met with their local legislators.  
  • The South Central 4-H District Activity Day was held June 14th.  Benjamin Keever and Nolan Heath competed in the event.  Benjamin plced 3rd in Arts and Communications with his presentation on coin collecting.  Nolan Heath received a blue ribbon for his talent in the 4-H Entertains portion of the event.

  • Throughout June, July and August many youth attended the summer camps Alexander 4-H offered.  Millstone 4-H Camp, Kids in the Kitchen-Snack Attack, Discovery Day 4-H Camp, Kids in the Kitchen-Chop Chef, STEM Day, Zoo Snooze, Cloverbud 4-H Camp and 4-H2O brought lots of new faces.  Hopefully these youth will get involved in 4-H Clubs and more 4-H events.  
  • The 72nd Annual 4-H Electric Congress was help July 9-12th at Western Carolina University.  Alexander County had one youth to attend Kaylor Berwick, and we had one volunteer attend Merylin Davis.  Participants toured a hydroelectric plant, train transportation station, white water rafting and many other events.

  • July 20-23rd NC 4-H Congress was held in Raleigh.  Three youth from Alexander County participated in the events:  Anna Beth Harris, Kaylor Berwick and Nolan Heath.  Nolan was selected to perform at the 4-H Gala, which is a great honor.

Home Grown Hearts 4-H Club met on Friday, August 16 at the new N.C. Cooperative Extension-Alexander County Center.  The kids made bookmarks while discussing plans for the upcoming year.  The next club meeting will be held Friday, September 20 at 9:30 a.m.  


 

Shockers 4-H Club will meet on Tuesday, September 17th at 6:00 p.m. at the N.C. Cooperative Extension-Alexander County Center.


 

Southern Graces 4-H Club met in June and made festive red, white and blue bangle bracelets out of bandanas.  Some of these were spotted at local parades and 4th of July festivities.  In July the made more out of pretty fabrics to take to an assisted living center and practiced songs to sing for the residents.  In August, they completed their community service project by visiting Taylorsville House.  They sang songs and handed out bracelets to the residents.  


 


 


 


 


 


  

Whisk It Up 4-H Club will meet on Thursday, September 26th at 4:00 p.m. at the N.C. Cooperative Extension-Alexander County Center.
