The school district sent a text message Friday afternoon about Hurricane Dorian. The message stated they are monitoring Hurricane Dorian & its potential impact to our county & schools. Any changes to school operations on Tue will be sent on Sunday, September 1st. If you are not receiving text messages from the district office or from me and you would like to receive them, instructions are below. Enjoy the holiday weekend and stay safe!
How to Opt-in or Opt-out of SchoolMessenger Text Messages
The first step of the process was conducted on 1/4/17 when the District sent an opt-in text message to all parent/guardian and staff phone numbers on file. If you received the opt-in message on your mobile device and responded with a “Y” or “Yes”, you should have received a confirmation text message stating, “You’re registered 4 SchoolMessenger notifications”. No further action is required for you to receive future text messages from your child’s school or from the District.
If you
did not
receive the opt-in message on your mobile device and want to receive text messages from your child’s school or from the District please follow the steps below:

From your mobile device,
Text “Yes” to 67587
. You should then receive a response text message stating, “You’re registered 4 SchoolMessenger notifications”.

Now that you have registered your device to receive text messages, you must verify that your mobile device phone number(s) is on file at your child’s school.

Thinking about life after High School?
Join us on Thursday, September 19th, from 6-8pm in the Nease Gymnasium for the 14th Annual Nease IB College Fair. Students of all grades, families, and friends, are invited to this year’s event, which will provide an opportunity for high school students to speak directly with representatives from over 75 colleges and universities from Florida and around the country! Come early, at 5:15, to hear a panel discussion with admissions representatives from FSU, Cornell, and UCF. This free event also includes the chance to learn more about state financial aid and get some common college myths busted by attending special topic presentations hosted by a UNF financial aid expert and College Admission Services.
Do you have old laptops lying around your house, just taking up space? Hugs Across the County is hosting a donation drive for used laptops for homeless students who need them! Drop off any old laptop you don't need anymore to Mrs. Ebersol in the front office or Mrs. Millian in the Media Center. All laptops donated will be refreshed and updated and all files on the computer will be securely wiped. Give your old
tech to those who need them today!

Thursday (8/29), she visited the Freshman English classrooms. Sophomore English classrooms will be visited on September 9

The Stellar Academy of Engineering wants to thank the Nease PTSO for their purchase of 10 3D printers and filaments for the Engineering Academy last year. This enabled us to enhance students' real-life application of STEM (e.g., engineering students created nose cone attachments for a rocket and Braille cubes). We plan to utilize the printers extensively this year and in coming years. The PTSO is conducting its annual membership drive and needs our help to continue to support Nease students. - Fall Retakes for FSA / EOC – September 9 – 27, 2019. Students will be contacted directly for these retake exams. There will also be further opportunities throughout the year. It is time to start applying to college! Counselors will be coming to your English classes during the week of September 9

Juniors:
This is your year! This will be the last full year that colleges see on your high school transcript prior to applying for college. It is important to make sure that you are doing your best. As we move throughout the school year, we will start encouraging you to take your SAT and ACT and going on college visits to schools that you may be interested in.
Sophomores:
This will be your year to take the PSAT and start thinking about your future after high school. It is important to make sure and keep your grades up so you keep your opportunities open.
Freshman:
Welcome to high school! From this point forward, all of your grades are a part of your permanent high school transcript that college will see when you apply. It is really important to start strong so that you do not spend the remainder of high school playing catch up. We are looking forward to getting to know you and helping you navigate this adventure!
Important Advanced Placement (AP) Registration Change!
Please note, due to new College Board test ordering deadlines, there is a change in our AP registration. Registration is open for AP courses, however, we are shortening our enrollment window. The last day for full-year AP course registration is September 29, 2019. If a student needs to be placed outside of the registration window, your DRM can facilitate this. The registration for half-credit AP courses will remain June 1-January 31. The AP letter containing test ordering and fee reimbursement information will be sent in September.

Our media center is a VERY busy one and we are constantly in need of parents volunteers to help us out at the circulation desk! If you are able to help us out, please click on the link below to sign up for a morning or lunchtime session that you are available to come and “hang out” with the most awesome students in St. Johns County!
TEXTBOOK INFO:
We ask everyone to please be patient with us as it relates to textbooks. Our population has grown by leaps and bounds, and we are experiencing shortages in many subject area textbooks. This is a district-wide issue. I assure you that this is something we are addressing and working on daily. It may take several weeks before we have all the textbooks we need and the teachers will be aware of any textbook shortages we may be experiencing. Please be patient as we experience all these “growing pains”.
PLANNERS/STUDENT ID’s:
Freshmen have received a FREE Nease planner. If they lose it and need another one, the cost is $5. Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors may purchase a planner for $5. These will be available in the Media Center.
ALL students will receive a new student ID for this school year. Students who have not yet received their ID may pick them up in the media center. Students
MUST
have their ID’s on them at all times on campus. If they are asked to present their ID by a dean or other faculty member and they do not have them, they WILL be required to purchase another one on the spot for $5 regardless of where their ID may be.
Please remind your student to carry their ID on them at all times and to take a picture of their ID to keep on their phone
. If they don’t have the physical card but have the picture, this will be acceptable. All NEW students will receive their first ID for free.

Marathon High
is a nonprofit program that encourages high school students to develop self-respect, confidence and healthy lifestyles through training for and running a 13.1 mile half-marathon. It is a free, after-school running club open to teens of all backgrounds and abilities in grades 9-12. The program is non-competitive, which means speed does not matter. What does matter is showing up, being committed and completing the goal during each training session and on race day.
Marathon High may appear to be all about running, but it's more about the life lessons that happen because of the running. Marathon High is about changing lives, inspiring dreams, and making a difference. It’s about helping teens rise up and become the people they were meant to be. It’s about shifting the way young people think about themselves and their place in the world. And it’s about challenging them to make the “impossible” possible. All while doing something most teens never do: running a half-marathon.
There will be an informational meeting at 4:00 September 17 in the PAC. The students will begin training the week of October 7
th
and will run the Donna Half Marathon to finish breast cancer in February. This program and the half marathon registration are free to students. If you would like to sponsor a student or the team please visit the Marathon High website to make a donation

GradBash is April 24, 2020. Once again, we will be participating in early entry. We will leave school at 12:30, enter the park at 3:00 and stay inside until 2:00AM. We only have room for 200 students. Last year we turned kids away. We are taking $80 deposits… first come, first served.
