Dear Riverside Parents,
Welcome back to school! We hope you all had a fantastic summer and that you and your kids are adjusting smoothly back into school.
It's been a busy week of activities for the PTA: we hosted a back-to-school breakfast for our wonderful Riverside teachers and staff, we held a reception for kindergarten and new families on Wednesday and we enjoyed seeing many of you yesterday at the Parade of Learners (check out the article on
Greenwich Time)
and PTA Welcome Back Coffee and Volunteer Fair. We appreciate everyone's volunteer support as it enables our PTA organization to partner with the school and teachers more effectively to enrich the education experiences for our kids!
In case you missed it, we've put together a
Back to School Checklist of key actions to help you hit the ground running. We hope everyone considers
joining the PTA as we count on these membership funds to support the many arts and science enrichment programs we offer our students. Thanks to all who have already contributed!
If you haven't had a chance to check out the PTA website - RIVPTA.org - please do as we have significantly updated it with all pertinent information and will continue to do so throughout the year. Please note that our Fall Afters program registration opened today and offers many great after-school programs.
For those who are new to Riverside, we send this weekly "Peek at the Week" newsletter via email every Friday with important School and PTA news, dates and information. Please watch out for it each week to stay up to date!

FALL AFTERS REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!
Registration for
Fall Afters
will remain open until Friday, September 6th at 5:00pm.
Please note that all students who wish to enroll in Afters class must set up an account with Flex Academies prior to registering.
Classes start Monday,
September 16th. We are looking forward to an exciting Fall Afters session with lots of new and returning programs that your child(ren) will love!

UPDATE YOUR DIRECTORY INFORMATION AND JOIN THE PTA!

and update your family information for this year, including your child's new teacher and any other changes. While you're there, we encourage all parents to become PTA members. Not only does it support all the amazing programs our PTA brings into the school, it also gives you unlimited access to the online and app directory. Visit the

And thank you to everyone who has contributed a donation to join the PTA so far - this is an important fundraiser to help us get up and running for the year.

DOWNLOAD THE SCHOOL DISMISSAL MANAGER APP 
We are using School Dismissal Manager again this year. It is an excellent online tool that will notify the school when anything needs to be changed in your child's dismissal plan for a particular day.
Please create a login to manage your child(ren)'s attendance and dismissal information (please refer to the email sent from Principal Weiss on Monday, Aug 26th with more details).
If you used School Dismissal Manager last year, you can log in with your existing credentials.

SIGN UP FOR SAFETY DUTY
We encourage you to sign top for Safety Duty which is the coverage to help kids get out of cars safely in the drop-off lane in front of school from 8:30-8:45am (only 15 minutes). You can sign-up through this safety duty link on the Riverside School PTA Volunteer Homepage.

RIVERSIDE EARLY MORNING PROGRAM
The
Early Morning Program at Riverside School provides a childcare option for Riverside students prior to the start of the regular school day. The program runs Monday through Friday from 7:15am until school opens at 8:30am. Any questions, contact Kristine Redlien at

2019 SUMMER BOOK READ: JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH
Riverside Elementary School chose James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl as our 2019 Summer Read. This will culminate in back to school activities in the Fall of 2019.
We hope this imaginative tale of adventure, excitement and friendship captivated the minds of our students this summer!

PICTURE DAY - SAVE THE DATE 
Mark your calendar for Picture Day on Tuesday,
September 24th. Class photos will be taken outside,
weather permitting. More information and an order
form will be coming home soon.

ANNUAL FALL FUNDRAISER - SAVE THE DATE!
Please save the date for Riverside School's Annual Fall
Fundraiser which will be held on
Saturday, October 19th at 7pm.
This year's event will have a "Riverside U" theme.
Tickets will go on sale soon.

4TH AND 5TH GRADERS: CHORUS SIGN UPS ARE HAPPENING NOW 
by September 11th. It's going to be an exciting year
of singing!

OPEN HOUSE NIGHT - THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 12TH 
Save the date for the Open House Night on Thursday,
September 12. Please note this is a parent/guardian only event with the teachers. We ask that students not be brought to the school during Open House. Thank you.

Classroom Visits
- 6-6:45 pm - Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade classroom visits with the teacher

7:15-8 pm - 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classroom visits with the teacher
Specialist Presentation

6:45-7:15 pm - Special combined slide presentation for interested parents by all of our specialist teachers (in our cafe or possibly the gym).
ALP Open House Hours that evening:
- ALP Reading
6:00-6:30 pm
- ALP Math
6:30 - 7:00 pm
After the presentation, both teachers will be in their classrooms for visitations
