Class of 2023 Newsletter
November 2019
Greetings!
We can’t believe it’s November and that our freshmen have been in Williamsburg for a couple of months already! Some students may be traveling home for Thanksgiving Break (November 27-December 1) while some will stay on campus. Not to worry— all residence halls will remain open during this time.

This month is a great time for students from all class years to visit the Cohen Career Center to learn how the team can help them in their career exploration and prepare them to make good use of their upcoming breaks. The deadline to apply for Winter Break Externships is November 8!

We hope this newsletter will help you prepare your student to thrive both academically and personally as they think ahead to next semester and beyond.
Sincerely,

June Casalmir and Joel Karns P ’23

Turkey Talk: Conversations with Your Student
Thanksgiving is a perfect time to reconnect with your student — especially if this is the first time they’ve been home since move-in day.

A Message From The Office of Health Promotion
The Office of Health Promotion is working with other campus partners to keep our students informed and offer an avenue to assist those who would like to quit using e-cigarettes, cigarettes and/or marijuana. Your influence on your student is one of the most important factors in their decision-making. Whether your student uses e-cigarettes or not, we would ask that you talk with them about this subject. . Parent & Family Giving
"The Office of Community Engagement (OCE) was there for me when I felt disconnected from campus. I had recently been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and was finally coming back to school. Through a local internship experience facilitated by OCE, I found a community that I immediately connected with. I continue to work with the organization today as a student volunteer, and the many experiences I've gained have led to a fellowship at Carnegie Mellon as well as other opportunities. None of this would have been possible without the Parents Fund; I cannot thank donors enough!" - Shannon Dutchie Class of 2019

Shannon Dutchie enjoys working with The Village Initiative during an OCE Day of Service to pack backpacks with school supplies for the local Head Start program. Internship stipends and partnerships like these are funded through the Parents Fund. Please consider including the Parents Fund in your Giving Tuesday plans this December 3rd. Gifts of every level help us reach our goal of $1 million by June 30, 2020 and secure critical resources for all students at William & Mary.
