Mariposa Arts Theatre Foundation: GORDON LIGHTFOOT: If You Could Read My Mind
September 4th

Announcing the first film of our 2019-2020 season:

Here's the scoop: "Gordon Lightfoot: If You Could Read My Mind is an exploration of the career, music and influence of legendary Canadian musical icon, Gordon Lightfoot. With unprecedented access to the artist, the film takes audiences from high school auditoriums in straight-laced, small town Ontario in the 50s to the coffee houses of Yorkville and Greenwich Village in the 60s, through Lightfoot's turbulent, substance-fueled arena shows of the 70s, and finally to the artist in present day."

Gordon Lightfoot: If You Could Read My Mind plays Wednesday, September 4th at Orillia Galaxy Cinemas (865 West Ridge Boulevard), with showtimes at 4:00 pm & 7:00 pm. Ticket sales start the day of the showing at 3:00 pm 'at the door' and are just $10 (cash only).

If you are in theatre withdrawal during our off-season, we have the solution...

Theatre by the Bay's summer season is about to begin, and they want to offer special ticket prices to our newsletter subscribers. (That's you!)

Melody Lynn Madden:
Exquisite to Sublime

Saturday, July 20 to Sunday, September 22, 2019

The Lounge Gallery

The suite of works in Exquisite to Sublime will provide a glimpse of Melody's development as an artist.   She began her professional artistic journey in textiles. Having grown up watching her grandmother embroider instilled a value of working with her hands.  Her free motion embroidered works are a stage in her seamless transition into painting with oils and acrylics. Her paintings evoke a sense of calm and introspection while simultaneously engaging palpable emotions.

I feel as if I paint places I would like to step into... places that not only inspire but comfort me.- Melody Lynn Madden

Opening Reception: July 13, 1-3 PM

The Franklin Carmichael Gallery

An exhibition mash up of a road trip, Champlain's touchdown in Orillia and the Apollo 11 moon landing by artists Gary Blundell and Victoria Ward, in an exploration of place and time.
Victoria spent her summers in Orillia as a child at her family cottage - a place layered with meaning for her.  She watched the Apollo 11 moon landing on a television that her father put on a beach along the shore of Lake Simcoe.
As a child Gary immigrated to Canada from England.  One thing that was a constant during his childhood were the statues of Samuel de Champlain that seemed to be everywhere he and his family traveled; to Quebec City, in Ottawa at Nepean Point, and eventually also in Orillia.
The theme of exploration is therefore very prevalent in Project Voyager. So is place.

Listen to Gary & Victoria's summer road trip playlist  here.
