READY, SET, DASH!
We were excited to kick off our annual school fun run called the Digger Dash on Friday with an all school assembly. Each year students run laps and raise money for our school. This year we are going to continue to add high interest books to each classroom library. Research confirms that all children need to read books that are personally interesting and engaging. We also know that each student needs to read books that he/she read accurately and comprehend. We know that all students K-5 will benefit from the additional texts in their classrooms!

The staff kicked off the Digger Dash by celebrating their favorite books and competing in a book stacking competition. In honor of two of their favorite books - Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and Strega Nona,- Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Bergner revealed that the fastest boy and girl in each grade level will cover them in spaghetti and sauce.

Your child should have come home with an envelope for fundraising for the race, which will be held on Friday, September 27th this year. We thank you for supporting our school and our mission to create lifelong readers!
THANK YOU PTO & VOLUNTEERS
We didn't let the weather get us down at Wester Night last Friday! Families enjoyed the horse, face painting, games and of course the cotton candy. We thank our PTO and volunteers for making this back to school event possible!
BOUNCE PAGES HELPS PARENTS WITH MATH HOMEWORK
We adopted a new math curriculum this year called Envision. We will continue to build students' conceptual knowledge of math concepts and their ability to problem solve using multiple strategies using this resource. Envision, which is currently used at Cimarron Middle School, also provides additional materials to support students with a range of math knowledge.

We know from research that how parents talk with their children around math can affect their academic achievement either positively or negatively. We encourage you to foster a mathematical mindset at home by making math fun, honoring mistakes and talking positively about your own math abilities and how we teach math.

Bounce Pages is an online app that links parents to videos that demonstrate how concepts have been taught in the classroom. Once you download Bounce Pages you can scan either the video or the eye icons located on the top of the page. These links open to videos that students have watched in class that explain the multiple strategies taught in class. Parents can use these videos to understand strategies that they might not be familiar with. They can also have their students review if he/she is unclear. See additional information about this app below.
