As I recently reported, sand placement has begun at the east end of Davis Park. Although progress has been slowed somewhat by repairs to one of the dredges, I am glad to report that both dredges are now at work.  Many of you have seen the dredges offshore as they move from east to west, day and night, dredging sand from the ocean floor. I have been to Davis Park and can report that the whole operation is impressive.  Sand placement should begin in the Pines by the middle of October (rather than late September, as we had hoped).  Demolition of the public walks to the beach, and installation of temporary walks, will begin about two weeks before the beginning of sand placement. 

Fundraiser

There will be a fundraiser for Brookhaven Town Supervisor Ed Romaine and Councilman Neil Foley on September 7th at 3PM at the Sip n' Twirl. Both the supervisor and the councilman are unfailingly supportive of many of our activities, including rebuilding the marina and the docks, the FIMI project, and maintenance of the community's infrastructure. Boulevard Cleanup
Our new Community Manager, Karen McCutcheon, has helped us put more energy into our boulevard cleanup. Our goal is to have everything gone for the Labor Day weekend. Karen has been able to get the utilities to remove two trucks that have been an eyesore for much of the summer. We are restricted on what we can do with many of the trucks because they are needed for the raising of the houses on the ocean.

Chamber of Commerce

The Fire Island Pines Chamber of Commerce will be holding its ann ual dinner cruise to the Fire Island Lighthouse on Saturday, September 7th.  It is a lovely moonlight event on the Great South Bay.   Tickets are still available!
