We are excited to welcome nearly 1,000 new international students for Fall 2019! Currently, there are approximately 3,500 enrolled international students at SJSU as well as 2,500 students on OPT authorizations.You are now part of a very diverse international student population who represent over 100 countries!

FALL 2019 Full-Time Enrollment Required 
Please remember international students are required by law to enroll full time each semester (Fall and Spring).  Graduate students must enroll in at least 9 units every semester and Undergraduate students must enroll in at least 12 units every semester. Of these, only 3 units may be taken online and at least 6 units must be taken at SJSU (concurrent enrollment). 

Important Deadlines for FALL 2019:

  • The deadline to drop classes without a "W" is Tuesday, September 3

  • The deadline to add classes is Tuesday, September 10.

  • The last day to apply for a reduced course load (RCL) to comply with F-1 regulations will be TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10. Information regarding RCLs can be found on our website.
If you plan to take less than a full course of study, please speak with an International Student Advisor to verify your eligibility for an exception to the full-time enrollment requirement and submit the required paperwork in a timely manner. 

                              Graduating Students Applying for OPT

Summer 2019 Graduates
All students who graduated in the Summer 2019 semester and are planning to apply for Optional Practical Training (OPT) must ensure their application is RECEIVED by USCIS by Tuesday, October 15.  

Fall 2019 Graduates
All students who will be graduating in the Fall 2019 semester and are planning to apply for Optional Practical Training  (OPT) will become eligible to submit applications to USCIS 90 days prior to the completion of their program of study. ISSS will start accepting OPT I-20 applications on Monday, September 9th. This is 100 days prior to your program completion date to account for internal and USCIS processing times.

Fall 2019 CPT
August 19 to December 18 are the official fall 2019 CPT authorization dates. For more information about CPT, please review the CPT section on our website.
