Wear hiking shoes and layered clothing, sun hat, sun screen, walking stick as
desired. Drawing materials. Food and water!
It is a twenty minute walk to the dam with one downhill and one uphill.
Going to the river requires a short downhill walk. We may also go to the Birthing Rock, a fairly easy walk.

Open call to investors who might wish to preserve forty-eight acres of prime agricultural land in Carmel Valley! The Wolter agricultural land across from Quail Lodge on Valley Greens Drive, tended since the 1930’s, is for sale.
This prime land was zoned for homes when the Carmel Valley Master Plan was updated about ten years ago. However, that doesn’t mean it has to happen! Policy CV-6.3 states “Cropland and orchards shall be retained for for agricultural use.” This is an opportunity to preserve the rural quality and natural resources of Carmel Valley. What a real shame it would be to see this historic, organically-tended land cut up into ranchettes.

Our Current Understanding of Climate Change

Former Technical & Scientific Director,
Fleet Numerical Meteorology Center
The Greenhouse Effect, and its impact on surface temperatures of the Earth, has been known for over a century. Scientists have long understood that burning fossil fuels would lead to a warming of Earth and a changing climate. Mike Clancy will review our current understanding of climate change and its consequences, explore the science of what drives this change, and discuss strategies for mitigating climate change in the future. Popular myths put forward by climate change deniers will be identified and addressed.
Mike Clancy earned a B.S. in Oceanography from Florida Institute of Technology, and a M.S. in Meteorology from the University of Miami. He has worked for Science Applications International Corporation and the Naval Research Lab. Mr. Clancy joined the U.S. Navy’s Fleet Numerical Meteorological and Oceanography Center (FNMOC) in Monterey in August 1983, and was selected as Technical and Scientific Director of the same in 2005. He has authored over 100 publications in meteorology, oceanography and information technology, and received over 50 professional awards—including the Navy’s highest civilian award—prior to retiring from Federal Service in 2011. Mike Clancy was inducted into the FNMOC Hall of Fame in 2015, and is currently a member of the Citizens Climate Lobby (CCL).

Senior Activities at the Youth Center
Senior activity hours are Tuesdays, 1-4 pm. in the Carmel Valley Community Youth Center community room. CVCYC board members and local volunteers are collecting books, games, cards, art supplies, and puzzles. Anyone is free to bring in games that they may want to play or refreshments to share. Movement activities are planned and other ideas include organized bus trips, walking groups, and writing programs. Donations are suggested but not required.

Carmel Valley Association is one of the oldest, largest, and most suc
cessful community organizations in Monterey County. We are entirely volunteer, with no paid employees. Our mission is to defend the beauty, resources and rural character of our beautiful valley. We do that by working with residents, businesses, and government.
CVA was instrumental in the adoption of the Carmel Valley Master Plan and recently settled a lawsuit with Monterey County regarding traffic measurement and capping future development on very favorable terms for our valley. Our volunteer experts represent Carmel Valley's interest, testifying before governmental bodies concerning development, water, traffic, road signs, and other quality of life issues.
We keep valley residents informed about important issues and events with our weekly email Bulletin, which goes to over 1200 residents, and our quarterly Newsletter, which is mailed to over 7,000 valley addresses.
