Dear friends,

We’ve welcomed every opportunity that we’ve had to interact with you in recent weeks and months, whether through social media, online camps and instructional videos, or in person. We miss having you on our campus but we are grateful for your calls and messages and we look forward to seeing you again when the time is right.

Sonoran Glass School will be closed for July and August. Our plan is to welcome you back for Hot Shop classes, Make-Your-Own Experiences, and open studio time on September 1 st. The Warm Shop should follow soon after. We do not have a reopening date for the Flame Shop at this time.

We are redesigning shop spaces and revising policies to ensure the safety of staff and students. Safety protocols will include but are not limited to:
  • Visits will be by appointment only, no drop-ins.
  • If you are not feeling well on the day of your visit, have been in contact with anyone who is sick, or have traveled recently, we ask that you reschedule.
  • Class sizes and number of students per day will be reduced to allow for social distancing and cleaning between appointments.
  • Tools and surfaces will be cleaned several times a day. Studio cleaning protocols will be posted for visitors to examine.
  • Staff and students will wear masks at all times, except when blowing glass.

We will start booking appointments for September classes, make-your-owns, and open studio times as early as next month. Please check our website, social media, and emails for the most up-to-date information. If you need to get in touch, please email info@sonoranglass.org .

Until then, we wish you a safe and happy summer and we hope to see you soon.

All my best,
Lynn Davis
Executive Director
A note from new SGS Board Chair, Marcia Lerner
Three years ago, when I hopped into my Jeep and headed west, I never imagined that I would be elected Chairperson of the Board of the Sonoran Glass School. A long-time glass lover and some-time glass worker, I was drawn to the school by its range of classes and the excellence of its instructors. But most of all, I was impressed by the school’s mission to serve the community.

Now, with the assistance of M.E. Walker as Vice-Chair, Jaime Gutierrez as Treasurer and Roberta Elliott as Secretary, I pledge to support the growth and values of the school. Replacing our past Board Chair of six years, David Pashkow, will be an arduous task. David, with his vast business experience, has been a driving force behind the school’s agenda of community development and fiscal stability.

Though we are living in unsure times, I believe that strength and healing can be found through artistic expression. As per our mission statement, we will continue “To inspire people of all ages and abilities to discover the wonder of glass arts.”
Many thanks to CFSA!

Because we have been temporarily closed due to COVID, SGS offered an online summer camp to our youth community. We had a lot fun fusing projects and had a Hot Shop interview and demo too! Students picked up their glass kit and met with Caroline Eimer, SGS Education Coordinator, online for one hour everyday. Our first week of campers were elementary school students who were eager and excited to make their own glass projects. The second week was grades 6-12. We had a blast working with all of them!

Check out what the campers made!
Do you know a scout troop or have a group of friends that would like a fun and creative project? Participate in a group class from home! The package includes a mosaic kit for each participant and one-hour of live instruction via Zoom. Cost is $10 per student and a $50 group class fee. Contact Caroline Eimer, SGS Education Coordinator for more information and to schedule.   caroline@sonoranglass.org .
