SEGUIN ELEMENTARY CELEBRATES 10TH ANNIVERSARY
A Decade of Learning: The Sky is the Limit!
Seguin Elementary celebrated its 10th anniversary this week, giving guests an opportunity to reminisce, reconnect, and celebrate the occasion. On program to share memories of Stallions past and present were current principal Dr. Fidel Wells, former principal Pat Shoffit, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Charles Dupre, teacher Tasha Grant and former Seguin teacher Karla Ritzen, who is responsible for the school being named after her hero. Music teacher Traci Patterson led third graders in singing and dancing to the school spirit song. When Elkins High School varsity volleyball player Oluwalademi M. Ogunlana (Lademi) decided to perform the National Anthem on her violin prior to a game against Cinco Ranch, she had no idea the video her assistant principal, Sandra Lacks, captured would go viral! The video has gotten more than 7.6K views on Twitter in just a couple of days! If you haven’t seen it yet, check out the awesome video of our Fort Bend ISD athlete showcasing her musical talents.

FBISD Board meetings - Non-profit networking event - GPS mentor training
Applications now open for Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) program
The application process is open for the Youth in Philanthropy (YIP) program, sponsored by The George Foundation. High school juniors and seniors may apply to participate, and the application is due by Fri., Sept. 6, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. Students chosen to participate in this year’s cohort are required to attend an orientation on Oct. 12, 2019 and an evaluation session on Feb. 29, 2020.
FBISD mentors invited to GPS training, Sept. 18
New and returning FBISD mentors are invited to attend a mandatory mentor training on Wed., Sept. 18, from 9:30 to 11 a.m., in the FBISD Administration Bldg. Board Room. The training will prepare volunteer mentors for supporting the District’s Guiding Promising Students (GPS) mentoring program.

Interfaith Leadership Breakfast Series, Sept. 26
FBISD’s Collaborative Communities Department, in partnership with Loving Houston, is hosting its first of three sessions in the 2019-20 Interfaith Leaders Breakfast Series. The event will take place Thurs., Sept. 26, 2019, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., in the FBISD Administration Bldg. Board Room (16431 Lexington Blvd., Sugar Land, 77479).
FBISD Family Night with the Houston Dynamo
Fort Bend ISD invites families and employees to attend FBISD Family Night with the Houston Dynamo as they take on the Minnesota United, Wed., Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m. A portion of the ticket sales will go toward FBISD student scholarships, teacher awards and a donation to the MD Anderson Cancer Center.
