Sloan Creek Parents-
We have had a great second week at at SCIS! I hope you will watch the video above with more details about:
- No School on Monday, September 2nd.
- 5th Grade Camp forms due tomorrow.
- 5th Grade Camp Money due next Friday, September 6th.
- Spirit wear sale ends on Tuesday, September 3rd.
- Book Fair Starts on September 9th.
Update on 5th/6th Grade Curriculum night and open house:
- 5th and 6th Grade Open House will be on September 10th.
We have two seperate formats to meet your needs. Pick the one you prefer!
5:30-6:00 p.m. Come and Go Format:
Teachers will be in their rooms stop by and say hello!
6:00-7:00 p.m. Presentation Buffet Format:
Each teacher will do 4 structured presentations.
Teachers will present a day in the life of the class. You can choose up to four teachers to hear presentations from. Starting times are listed below. All four presentations are the same.
6:00-6:15 Presentation #1

6:30-6:45 Presentation #3
6:45-7:00 Presentation #4

Fall Pictures - September 11
LOVEJOY CHILDREN'S CHOIR - 4TH, 5TH, 6TH GRADERS
The Lovejoy ISD Children's Choir, directed by the Lovejoy ISD Elementary Music Specialists, is designed to serve the needs of our district's 4th, 5th and 6th grade students who are committed to a musically exceptional experience. Auditions will be held on September 10 and 12 for any and all LISD 4th, 5th and 6th grade students interested in participating. Rehearsals are Tuesdays from 3:30-4:30 at SCIS. Returning members do not need to audition but DO need to fill out the online registration form: https://tinyurl.com/LCC2019-2020. SCIS Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you to those of you that attended the Volunteer Coffee either in person or on Facebook Live. The video is still available on the Sloan Creek Facebook page, if you missed it and are interested. We are overwhelmed (in a good way) with the number of parents that want to be involved. As mentioned in the Coffee, we have added this space in Mr. Winkler's emails to provide volunteer information, That way, training dates, meeting dates, and sign ups all live in one spot.

We will close the Volunteer sign up on September 6th and plan to open it up again in the Spring, for any new families or parents that schedules may have changed. If you miss the google Doc and still want to get involved, please email Kim Rollins at kmrollins@hotmail.com to discuss opportunities and she will point you in the right direction.

KEY TRAINING DATES
If you have signed up to help in any of these areas, here are the training dates. You can check into the front office and they will direct you to where the training will be located.
Test Readers - September 4 - 9:00 - 10:00 am
Front Desk - September 4 - 10:00 - 11:00 am
Mentoring - September 17 - 9:00 - 10:00 am
If you have signed up to be a Lighthouse Team Volunteer - Here are the dates of those student meetings. All of these meetings will be from 2:50 - 4:00. The dates are: 9/25. 10/23. 11/20, 1/22, 2/26, and 3/25.

2019-2020 Reflections Theme Is In!
The SCIS PTA is very pleased to announce that the theme for this year's Reflections contest is entitled "Look Within". We encourage ALL 5th and 6th graders to participate in this annual competition which promotes the creation of student works of art. The art categories range from dance choreography to film production, literature, music composition, photography and the visual arts. Students may enter the Reflections program in one or more arts categories with no limit to the amount of entries in a single category. The deadline for submission is Monday, October 28th by 3pm. Every student who participates will receive a certification of recognition signed by the Texas PTA President and recognition on the Texas PTA web site.

SCIS Directory Advertisers Needed
Our PTA is busy preparing the 2019-2020 Sloan Creek School Student Directory. As three schools merge, this is a great way to get to know your child's new classmates. We ask local merchants to support our PTA and our school through advertisements, which finance the printing of the directory. To place an ad in the directory, download the Ad Form and mail the contract with a check payable to SCIS PTA by Friday, September 13. Please contact the Director Chair, Alyssa Boyd (alyssaboyd@live.com) with any questions.
