Name Changes Proposed for Bridge and Two Village Roads
The Village Board is considering a resolution to officially name and memorialize the historic covered bridge to 'Robert Parker Coffin Bridge' along with revising the names of two Village roads. If approved, Robert Parker Coffin Road would revert back to its original name of Long Grove Road, which was changed in the 1990s to honor former Village President Robert Parker Coffin. Long Grove Road would be renamed 'West Long Grove Road' which is its actual name. If these changes are approved, some addresses would be impacted. The proposed name changes are meant to create more continuity for the road leading into downtown, and to continue honoring Coffin, who was a strong community leader and helped build Long Grove into what it is today. The Board’s decision on the resolution is pending. For any questions, please call Village Hall at 847-634-9440.
RPC Bridge Project Nears Completion
The contractor handled the roof decking installation this past week, along with the exterior wooden portions of the bridge. Its wooden cover is scheduled to be substantially complete by August 7, 2020 (weather-permitting) with some of the finishing touches expected to be done by August 14. Click here for the latest updates and information, along with video of the recent moving of the bridge back to its location, as well as other pictures that have documented progress throughout this project.
Open Meetings Act Changes
In late May of this year, the State of Illinois amended the Open Meetings Act, allowing government bodies to meet remotely/virtually during the pandemic.

Newly approved requirements mandate that all open meetings be recorded via audio or video. To view videos of Village Board and commission meetings, visit the Village’s website calendar page here and click the meeting date.

Video recordings are included for all meetings on and after June 12, 2020. You can also subscribe to the Village of Long Grove’s YouTube Channel to receive alerts about new meeting videos. Visit this link and click the red ‘ subscribe’ button.
Demolition Permit Approved for
Park District Property
The Village Board recently approved a demolition permit request from the Long Grove Park District to remove a house at 3853 Ridgewood Lane, located adjacent to the Reed-Turner Woodland Nature Preserve. The property, currently owned by the Park District and formerly occupied by the late conservationist Barbara Turner, would require very significant renovations at a substantial cost. The Park District's plan is to restore the land back to nature. As part of the permit approval, the Village is allowing a 60-day waiting period until Monday, September 14, 2020, for members of the public to express interest in saving the property from demolition. Please call Village Hall at 847-634-9440 for more information.
Controlled/Prescribed Burn Ban Extended Until August
Due to ongoing concerns about smoke aggravating residents' health conditions related to COVID-19, both the Long Grove Fire Protection District ( 847-634-3143 ext. 2520) and Countryside Fire Protection District ( 847-367-5511) have extended controlled and subscribed burn bans through August 15, 2020. The CDC has recommended burning be banned so as not to aggravate conditions such as chronic respiratory illness, lung disease and moderate to severe asthma, in light of the ongoing pandemic. For additional information, contact your fire protection district.

The Long Grove Historical Society recently donated more than $53,000 toward the Robert Parker Coffin Road Bridge improvements after a fundraising campaign that began roughly two years ago. The total expenses incurred by the Village for the bridge improvement project are $589,000, along with a $195,000 insurance payment due to damages caused by a truck in June of 2018. A grant from the State of Illinois for $250,000 was also utilized for this project to restore this historic landmark.
