Hobbies on a Budget - Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum

We have visited six other presidential libraries over the past few years and feel that is very important to learn about the men who have served in the office of United States president. There's something special about getting to know the person behind the office that you experience when you visit a presidential library. More than stacks of books and documents, a presidential library and museum is a chance to connect the dots of United States history.

7 Farmhouse Restaurants In Kansas That Are Worth A Trip To The Country

There's a lot of reasons to go on road trips in Kansas, but our favorite reason is anything that gets us closer to a new restaurant. These farmhouse restaurants are worth the drive and are great reasons to get out there and explore. Come see for yourself!

National Dog Day

August 26 marked National Dog Day. Visitors to Abilene celebrate Greyhound dogs daily at the Greyhound Hall of Fame Museum.

Throwback Thursday - Old Abilene Town

One hundred fifty-two years ago the McCoy brothers-  William, James, and Joseph-of Springfield, Illinois, bet  their collective fortunes on the slapdash way station  known as Abilene, Kansas. Instead of a few rough-hewn  cabins in an endless sea of prairie grasses, they saw a  bustling outlet for hundreds of thousands, if not millions,  of Texas cattle coming up the Chisholm Trail. Success in  the cattle trade has always been based on buying low and  selling high. This principle motivated Joseph, the youngest  of the three brothers, to gamble on establishing a Texas  cattle market outlet at Abilene, Kansas. On September 5,  1867, he realized his goal as a locomotive departed from  his brothers' Great Western Stock Yards with the first
stock cars loaded with Texas cattle.

5 Star Reviews - Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum

We were already going back to see out Granddaughter's 1st birthday in Arkansas so we decided we should see Truman's Library and museum then Eisenhower two of my hero's in American history. Fortunately for us the museum just complemented a total renovation. It was OUTSTANDING! What really got me was there is an iconic photo of Eisenhower speaking to the Airborne troops just before they left for Normandy a soldier has a number 23 hung around his neck, that uniform is in the museum collection so very cool! I won't tell you what they description read about their conversation because you should lead on your own but it was quite fanciful. I highly recommend this museum.
