Media & News Literacy are important critical thinking skills for educated voters. How do you help your patrons identify truthfulness in everyday news stories, especially on social media? Join us at the
Media & News Literacy Fair
on Wednesday, October 16, from 9:00am-1:00pm at the Farmington Library to learn more!
Presentations will provide context about what Media Literacy and News Literacy are, as well as practical tips and techniques for teaching these literacies to library patrons and students. In one session, a moderated panel of journalists will address topics of accuracy and fairness in journalism, the reputation and trustworthiness of professional media, and the relationship between libraries and media.
With presentations from Michelle Luhtala, New Canaan Public Schools; Katherine Trouern-Trend, Hartford Public Library; and Simmons University's "Know News" project; plus a panel of Connecticut radio and newspaper journalists.

It’s that time again!
Here is the
Annual Summer Reading Survey
, the deadline to complete it is Friday, September 13. Our goal is to hear from ALL Connecticut public libraries even if you did not use the READSquared software.
Only ONE survey should come from each library system (libraries with branches should consolidate their data) are we’re collection results from children, teen, and adult summer programs so please collaborate with your colleagues.
PLEASE fill this survey out, even if you do not use the CSLP materials or READSquared. It is extremely important for our LSTA (Federal) funding, and annual report that goes to IMLS. The more data we can report to them, the better the chance of showing the importance of summer reading – and thus the importance of federal funding for libraries. Please take this survey seriously. Your participation is very much appreciated.

LSTA Grant Information Session
Although the deadline for literacy grants has passed for 2019, applications for planning grants are accepted on a rolling basis every two months, with the next deadline on October 28. These six-month planning grants will provide up to $5,000 to assist libraries with planning initiatives to explore new services, assess and address the needs of changing population and patron bases, develop partnerships and collaboration, or write new strategic plans or long-range master plans.
All potential applicants must attend an information session about the assessment and planning tools available from the CT State Library as well as grant application instructions, regulations, and fiscal management. The next session is scheduled for

Connecticut Public Library Annual Report for FY2019
The State Library's annual Public Library Survey for 2018-2019 is now available for submission. Each library’s participation in this survey is critical for state and national data gathering on public libraries.

The only change from last year is how you’ll report your researchIT CT ebook and downloadable audio circulation – see the Guide for more information.
The firm DEADLINE for submission is 4 P.M. on Friday, November 15, 2019. Public libraries are required by statute CGS Sec. 11-25 (a) to submit an Annual Report in order to receive borrowIT payments or other state appropriations.

eGO CT Update
eGO live testing continues and expands. The following libraries are being configured for the SimplyE app and are currently in "test" phase: Canterbury, Columbia – Saxton B. Little, Coventry - Booth Dimock, Lyme, Middlebury, New Fairfield, Plainfield – Aldrich, Pomfret, Preston, Prospect, Scotland, and Woodstock.
We will be rolling out eGO CT this fall with training sessions around the state. Dates coming soon!

findIT CT & requestIT CT Updates
Equinox is working on an enhancement that automates the removal of deleted bibliographic records in the findIT catalog. The new automation will make the loading process run much more smoothly, so we are waiting for the enhancement before we load the catalog. We will put out the call for libraries’ holdings after the new automation has been tested, which will be this fall.
We are testing the Evergreen-FulfILLment Connector. If all goes well with the testing we will begin rolling the connector out this fall to Bibliomation libraries that are participating in requestIT.

researchIT CT Update
Due to decreasing usage and increased costs, statewide subscriptions to HeritageQuest and the Business Market Research Collection have been canceled. EBSCO offerings remain the same, with the exception of the four EBSCO eBook collections (Public Library, High School, K-8, and Cricket collections). ProQuest offerings remain the same with the exception of HeritageQuest and the Business Market Research Collection. The researchIT CT website has been updated to reflect these changes.
We created a page with up to date lists of online, library-related magazines and journals for librarians that are available in full-text and actively in publication (as of Summer 2019). The page is at:
