The Wild Side: Spiders 101

Did you know that a spider's silk is stronger than steel? If you have a strand of spider silk and a strand of steel of the same size, the spider silk would be stronger! Spiders can produce up to seven different types of silk, depending on the species of spider. Not only do spiders use their silk to make webs, but it serves many other purposes as well, like wrapping an egg sac or prey for example. Spider silk is made from protein. Spiders can recycle their webs by eating them and using the protein to make a new web!
Are you working on your N.C. Environmental Education Certification or maybe just an arachnid enthusiast that wants to learn more about these fascinating creatures? Join us for our adult workshop, "Spiders 101" on Friday, September 13.  Visit our website to register.
