Missy's Message

Greetings,
What a privilege it is to witness what God is doing in the lives of the moms at Bethesda House. Often, they need help discovering their God-given gifts and abilities. Our volunteer team pours into each one, helping them discover those beautiful gifts. The love that is poured in individually and collectively to each mom and baby continues to amaze me.

We talk regularly about all the transportation and evening care provided but there’s so much more that our volunteers do to support the moms! Just to name a few… one-on-one breastfeeding support, one-on-one childbirth classes, card making with the group, Christian Life Coach series, new mama care (twice a day support for a couple of hours so postpartum mama can rest/shower). The moms just finished a great Bible study Anxious for Nothing by Max Lucado, which will be useful for all seasons and challenges in their future.

The love and support provided to our moms every day is the cornerstone of Bethesda House. We thank you for being a part of it.

Direct Care Volunteer Training Refresher Sessions
At Bethesda House, policies and procedures are constantly changing in order for us to keep up with our unprecedented growth. To keep all volunteers current, we will be holding annual refresher sessions for all active volunteers trained a year ago or more. Sessions will be held in the daytime and evening so that we can accommodate the busiest of schedules. We feel it is imperative that you attend either September session as we know consistency is crucial when providing such comprehensive support to the women and babies we serve.

Please take a moment to review the  Statement of Faith   that is at the core of our ministry.

We hope that you can do your best to attend.
September 16th 10:00 – 11:00am
September 23rd 7:00 – 8:00pm
Duxbury Church, 2 Tremont Street, Duxbury
ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL SOCCER TOURNAMENT
God shined down upon us June 22nd as we brought our Soccer Tournament to the beautiful Union Sports Complex in Weymouth. We had a record number of volunteers, a record number of participating teams and YES a record amount fundraised! Thank you to all sponsors (especially Event Sponsor: Dimark Precision Machining), participants and volunteers who all helped to this the best event yet. We can't wait to see you next year!
VOLUNTEER AT BETHESDA HOUSE--
THE NEXT TRAINING IS OCTOBER 5th
3:00pm - 6:00pm
Duxbury Church, Duxbury
This is your opportunity to learn about our organization, our mission, and the various ways to support Bethesda House. There are numerous areas where you can use your God-given talents you can support Bethesda House where opportunities are flexible depending on your availability. We require that you attend one of our 3-hour training sessions if you plan to provide direct care to the mothers and babies. These are just a few of the ways you can provide direct care to our moms and babies at Bethesda House:

-- Transportation: Driving to doctors appointments, classes, work, daycare and more.
-- Evening Care: Providing a family atmosphere for dinner prep, modeling family style dining and supporting moms at the end of a long day.
-- Babysitting: Taking care of the babies so moms can attend bible study, life skills training or study for an upcoming educational need.
-- New Mama Care: Being present at BH in the early weeks of motherhood for a postpartum mom and her newborn providing much needed support and love.

The training session begins at 3:00pm but we invite you for coffee and check-in starting at 2:45!
(The next one after 10/5 is 1/11/2020 – 9:00am - 12:00pm)
Join the Bethesda House Community Sharing Group on Facebook
We invite all trained volunteers to join our private Facebook group: Bethesda House Community Sharing Group. This is where you will be notified of the latest updates at BH including new mom announcements, volunteer needs, pictures and videos of everyday life at BH, and much more. Sometimes volunteers can’t be present at BH as much as they’d like but this group helps us all always feel connected to Bethesda House.
Get Notified of Volunteer Needs
We are currently using SignUpGenius to manage all of our volunteer needs. You can sign up for one or more lists: Transportation, Babysitting, Evening Care, Study Buddies and New Mama Care. There is no commitment when receiving notifications, just simply sign up for those timelsots that work within your schedule.

As you may have noticed, we are having a difficult time filling all of the transportation needs this summer for the few moms we have had in our care. As we look to bring more moms into Bethesda House, we ask that you consider joining the transportation signup if you have any weekday availability to help us with rides: https://www.signupgenius.com/index.cfm?go=sSignupLogin&urlid=70A0948A5AE28A7F49-transportation

Seeking Grant Writer
We are so fortunate to cover so many of our expenses through fundraising and donations. Our community support is something we are so incredibly blessed to have. In addition to this funding, we would like to tap into grant opportunities. We are looking for a volunteer grant writer who can research appropriate grants and can apply for them on our behalf. If this is something you might be interested in or have questions about, please email Missy Porter at mp@bethesdahousema.org.
Tell Us About Your BH Experiences
We want to feature some of our amazing volunteers on our Facebook page! If you're interested in being featured (don't be modest -- being featured will hopefully inspire more people to get involved!), please respond to the following questions and send a photo of yourself that you don't mind all of Facebook seeing.

— How long have you been volunteering with the Bethesda House?
— Why did you want to get involved?
— What do you help out with?
— Share a story about your favorite time/moment while you were volunteering.

Please send your response and a photo to Natalie McKee at outreach@bethesdahousema.org
*FOR EXAMPLE*-- Here is one by new volunteer Chloe Bitters:
"I just completed the training in July. I’ve volunteered a few times so far!

I wanted to get involved with Bethesda House because I believe every mother and child deserves a chance to live out their potential. My hope is for these women and children to see God’s unconditional love through the helpers and volunteers!

I help with evening care and transportation and recently started helping with the marketing/digital media side of things. I love it all so much! I’ve only volunteered a few times so far, but my favorite thing is just being with the women/children and getting to know them better. Each woman is so special and has so many amazing qualities to contribute to whatever they do. They bring me so much joy and I love being someone they can talk to!"
WELCOME NEW TEAM MEMBERS!

Natalie McKee, Outreach Coordinator
Natalie is sharing her expertise in marketing and public relations to not only spread the word of Bethesda House to new moms who can change their lives at Bethesda House, but to also in new volunteers and supporters to help us continue to grow our ministry.
Amy Vickery, Food Coordinator
Amy has taken on this important role helping the moms plan their meals for the week. Planning with a focus on nutrition, shopping and meal prep are everyday tasks here at Bethesda House and we appreciate Amy's organizational skills in helping oversee this important part of our ministry. You can help Amy by letting her know well in advance if you are planning to bring food to BH. Amy can be reached at foodcoordinator@bethesdahousema.org.
