News for alumni & friends
August 2019
It's great to be back on campus!  With the annual infusion of our new Tauber students - and only a couple more weeks until the 2019 SPOTLIGHT! competition - the energy here is fantastic.

I hope to see you at the team project presentations. I had the opportunity to meet with the Brose and Pfizer Clinical Manufacturing teams over the summer and am excited to hear more about their final results, as well as explore the solutions employed by our nineteen other project teams in greater depth.

Go Blue!  - Larry

Admissions & Student Experience Manager job description >
Tauber Solutions:
Enabling growth through display volume forecasting

The Challenge:
General Mills strives to deliver innovative Special Pack (SPPK) products to its customers, but fluctuations in demand constantly disrupt the supply chain and lower the overall customer service level. The Tauber team was tasked to review forecasting and ordering processes to identify any potential gaps and redundancies in the system, then develop new forecasting methodologies, re-engineer key processes, and define key performance indicators to support the rapidly growing SPPK business.

The Solution:
The Tauber Team focused their efforts into three phases. First, the team mapped out the entire SPPK process from customer order to delivery. A gap analysis of the process revealed several opportunities for improvement, most notably the standardization of communication. Second, the team focused on designing a new forecast methodology to anticipate changes in demand 60 days out to smooth out inventory and capacity at the manufacturing facilities. Lastly, the team modified the existing reporting procedures to reveal more realistic expectations for customer behavior and adjust manufacturing accordingly.
