Art School is in Session!
|

School has begun, and the Emerson's art education classes are in full swing!
Fall 2019 classes begin this month! Sign your kids up for our clay classes or new Studio Kids sessions!
We also offer 8-week adult classes for ages 14+ in ceramics, drawing, jewelry design, painting, and introductory art classes.

Art Walk
If you're looking for some extra good luck this Friday the 13th, stop by the Emerson for a fantastic Art Walk! Galleries and studios will be open with refreshments and artist meet-and-greet opportunities. This is the last Art Walk of summer, so come on down!

Quick Draws, Cocktails, & Comedy
October 4

The Emerson's annual Quick Draws & Cocktails has a new twist: COMEDY! Join us for an evening of colorful quick draw artists, fabulous stand-up comedy, and cocktails. Sean Carrigan and DC Ervin will headline the evening! Your first drink is on us, along with a selection of light appetizers from local restaurants and caterers. Artwork in a variety of mediums and styles will be brought to completion by artists and auctioned off during the evening.
Individual tickets are $30 in advance, $40 at the door. VIP tables for 8 are $400 and include reserved table, additional cocktails, and a special meet-and-greet at 6pm with the evening's performers.

Sue McCauley moved from London to Big Timber in the early 90's to join her husband on his working ranch. Sue always loved art but did not think of painting until she left her journalism career. Her first attempt at painting was in a barn using cattle markers!
Sue's latest show will include oil and acrylic paintings of figures, abstractions, landscapes, and people. Meet Sue on Saturdays from 11am - 4pm and at the September 13 Art Walk!

Bruna Massadas
|
|
| |
|
|
|
|
|
| |
Bruna Massadas was born in Brazil and immigrated to the U.S. when she was 15. After earning her B.F.A. in Drawing and Painting and B.A. Art History at Cal State Fullerton, she received her M.F.A. in Drawing and Painting at California College of the Arts. She is an active member of the art collective Binder of Women, which will show her work in a group show at The Pit in Los Angeles in November.
Bruna often paints colorful, playful portraits - she is now experimenting with printing - but she doesn't limit herself to any particular medium. Last summer she made a podcast miniseries about her immigration experience called
First Lady of the Mall, and she is currently working on a hand-drawn animated film.
Bruna is thrilled to be a part of the Emerson's supportive community, and she couldn't be happier with her cozy new studio.

The Emerson invites you to roam the rich cultural heritage of Scotland during Celebration of the Arts, our biggest fundraiser of the year. We are soliciting original art donations for this year's auctions. Supporting artists will have a special exhibition in the Jessie Wilber Gallery preceding the event.

Christmas Stroll Donations

The Emerson is a proud sponsor of Bozeman's annual Christmas Stroll - and we kick off the festivities! We host gingerbread house making, as well as live music and art performances. All activities are free and open to the public.
We are seeking donations to purchase supplies for the 500 gingerbread houses that are built here! Please click the donate button, or visit in person to support the Emerson and this classic holiday happening.

A MODERN IMPACT: The Work of Rudy & Lela Autio

Rudy and Lela Autio paved the way for the modern art movement in Monta
na. From roots in Butte and Great Falls, Rudy and Lela made their mark in the art history books after nearly 60 years of dedication to art making and advocation.
Rudy who worked primarily in ceramics, helped build and develop the Archie Bray Clay Center in Helena an
d started the Ceramics program at the University of Montana, Missoula. Lela loved to draw and paint and while achieving her Master's Degree at the University of Montana, became interested in abstract scenes using blocks of color. She had a hand in the creation of the first art museum in Missoula, in the old Carnegie Library on Pattee St. Both Rudy and Lela received the Governor's Award in the Arts. Rudy in 1981 and Lela in 2015.

"I am a figurative painter. I am concerned with the human condition. Many of my pieces are portraits. I am drawn to the expression of
an individual that shows endurance, strength, perseverance and
gentleness. I use models to paint and my style is representative of indigenous people. I believe that we are all indigenous in that we all come from a particular land that we are tied to at some point in our histories. I strive to paint the raw side of life where my people are connected to the earth, filled with the spirit of life, and are part of the earth. "

| Emerson History The Emerson is a thriving arts and community center located a block from historic downtown Bozeman. The building was originally an elementary school built in 1918, attended by thousands of Bozeman youth before its closure in 1991.  |
