A VERY SPECIAL KINDNESS

Soarin’ Hawk was given a very special surprise by Cedarville Elementary School’s first grade students after the educational talks we did there on Monday, May 17th. These special students and teachers decided on a special project entitled “Chores Are For The Birds."
All the first grade students from each class did chores to earn money to donate to Soarin’ Hawk with a whopping total of $183.05! The students wrote down each chore on a piece of paper doing helpful things like, fed the goats, took out the garbage, helped with the dishes, etc., and placed it in the class envelope with the money they received for the task. Not only was this very helpful to the Soarin’ Hawk organization, but it taught the students the importance of donating their time to help a worthwhile cause. The students also gave us a poster they made, that is proudly displayed in our main building.
Bob Walton, co-founder of Soarin’ Hawk, was so impressed by the student’s efforts, he created special ‘Thank You’ certificates with a picture of our eagle, Mr. Jefferson, and signed by our president, Ted Geers, to commemorate all of their hard work. Bob also hosted a special Zoom session for the students so they could see more of the Soarin’ Hawk ambassador birds and learn about what we do to take care of them.
It was a great experience for everyone involved, and we’d like to give a big ‘shout out’ to Cedarville Elementary School, those wonderful teachers, and the first graders who learned in a very special way that ‘Chores are for the Birds!’

FOUR EGGS, ONE HATCHLING, ONE AMAZING JOURNEY
|
|
Well, this year's falcon season is coming to an end. So much has happened in the short month and a half since this year's only baby hatched on April 23. Because she was Moxie and Jamie's only child, she got lots of attention and food, and often was seen with a crop that looked like it was ready to explode! On May 18, she was briefly removed from the nest box and given a name and the leg bands that will identify her for life. (The unhatched eggs also were taken for examination to learn why they didn't hatch.)
By the time you read this, BeeGee likely will be flying (or very close to flying) the skies of Fort Wayne, learning from Moxie and and Jamie to be the best falcon she can be.

WANT TO BE A WILDLIFE REHABILITATOR?
Rehabilitating wildlife is a calling. It's interesting, frustrating, heart-wrenching, satisfying, sometimes exhausting, expensive, and never the same two days in a row. It's also one of the most rewarding jobs you can do. If you hear the "call of the wild," and want to be a rehabber, here is some general information about the requirements for getting a rehab permit.

DID YOU KNOW? BALD EAGLE FACTS

Thanks to people like you, we were able to rescue, rehabilitate, and release this beautiful Snowy Owl. After a few weeks in our facility, she was released in Michigan, in order to give her a bit of help in her long migration north. Won't you make a donation, so we can help others like her? No contribution is too small!
Your donation is tax deductible.
