Buy Local
This may be preaching to the choir, but Buying Local not only helps our local businesses, but trickles down to neighboring businesses, local employees and Town sales tax revenues which are directly invested back into the local community.
As Thomas Barr, Executive Director of Local First Arizona, pointed out at the Carefree Business Breakfast in August, shifting spending from national chains to locally-owned businesses creates new jobs, and keeps up to four times more money in our community. For every $100 spent in a local business, $45 re-circulates and stays right here in Arizona. For the same $100 spent in any national chain, only $13 remains.
Town of Carefree leadership is working hard to help local businesses through the Carefree Business Directory at VisitCarefree.com, our Light Post Banner program for Carefree business owners, our revised signage ordinance and our quarterly Business Breakfasts, all of which engage and assist Town businesses. In addition, we will be hiring consultants to improve the effectiveness of signage outside of and within the Town core, and to improve crosswalk safety. Plans are moving forward with the Hampton Inn and The View Carefree townhouse projects, both of which will commence construction soon. We are also exploring Town funding for a project with Local First Arizona, which would bring statewide visibility to Carefree businesses that wish to participate. 
By making your customers aware of the impact of Buying Local and by working together, we can ingrain that mindset into our residents. As a result, both customers and businesses will win!

In my 40 plus years in Arizona I've seen the moisture from dying Pacific Hurricanes get pulled into our State and catch us up in a hurry. Fingers crossed for this year!
Businesses in Town are still in the off season doldrums so, as always, do your best to buy local. It helps them and it helps our Town.

   One of the most extraordinary areas in the Cave Creek/Carefree area is the Spur Cross Conservation Area , about six miles north of the Cave Creek Museum. The 2,154-acre breathtaking preserve includes almost ninety Hohokam archaeological sites from their habitation from approximately A.D. 700 to A.D. 1200. The hard-fought preserve (developers were ready) was created with the signature of Governor Jane Hull January 9, 2001. Near today’s gated entrance (a nominal fee is required/honor-system) was the nationally-heralded Phoenix Mine. It was Cave Creek’s first town-center, employing 100 workers and their families. In 1894, a rare and extremely large 100-stamp, stamp-mill, was feverishly chronicled in San Francisco and New York papers ( one stamp is an approximate 1,000-pound vertical iron-bar that crushes rock for gold extrication). The Phoenix Mine was established in 1878 by three Phoenix men: William Kent, lost to history; Francis A. Shaw, Phoenix’s second mayor from 1881 to 1883; and Hiram (Hi) C. McDonald, pioneer lawman who served into the  20 th Century.
   George Mowry was Phoenix’s fifth Sheriff from 1875 to 1878. Sometime during his tenure (date unknown), he hired Hiram McDonald as a town-jailer. McDonald, a Texan, born in 1847, had been a guard for Wells Fargo prior to his Phoenix employment. Later, he became a Deputy Marshal, Deputy U.S. Marshal, and finally a Phoenix Police Officer. “Hi” retired from the Police Department on May 21, 1924. He wore badge #1.
