HURRICANE DORIAN UPDATE
A Message from Mayor Scott Singer

We know you’ve got your eye on Hurricane Dorian, and we do too. The City of Boca Raton is working closely with Palm Beach County Emergency Management in preparation for Hurricane Dorian. The storm is expected to make landfall along the east coast of Florida on Monday, September 2 (Labor Day), as a Category 4.

We are monitoring the storm track carefully, and have declared a State of Emergency, which allows the City to take actions necessary to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the community. City officials met this morning and have begun preparations in all departments. For now, City services, including sanitation, are operating according to regular schedules through Friday, but meeting and event cancellations, as well as facility closures, are likely. As a reminder, the City of Boca Raton was already scheduled to be closed in observance of Labor Day.

We strongly encourage our residents and businesses to make preparations NOW. We will continue to provide updates through phone calls, emails, social media and the local news media as more information becomes available. Please read on for important reminders about evacuations, shelters, safety tips and staying connected before, during and after the storm. Stay safe, Boca Raton.
ARE YOU IN AN EVACUATION ZONE?
Are you in an evacuation zone? If so, have you planned your evacuation route?

SHELTER INFORMATION
MEDICAL NEEDS
If you or your loved ones have specific medical needs or take daily medications, prepare now. If you are in a mandatory evacuation zone, create a plan to get yourself and loved ones out of harm's
way if the storm threatens your community. Also, be sure to talk to your doctor to see if you can get additional doses of your medication(s).
PETS
Unfortunately, our furry friends are not allowed in county shelters. If you have a pet and are in a mandatory evacuation zone, you can pre-register at the Pet Friendly Shelter at the West Boynton Recreation Center. Space is limited and only one owner may accompany their pet. All other family members will need to stay at the adjacent human shelter.
SPECIAL NEEDS
If you or your loved one has special needs, Palm Beach County has established a Special Needs Shelter for citizens with certain medical problems. The shelter is staffed with physicians and nurses and has auxiliary electrical power, is wind resistant and not flood-prone. Those with special needs are encouraged to request being added to the registry before any evacuation order is given .
HURRICANE GUIDE & INFORMATION
Boca Raton Hurricane Guide
As a coastal community in South Florida, the City of Boca Raton is vulnerable to the effects of tropical storms and hurricanes.

Each and every household and business should develop a hurricane plan to meet their needs and answer questions like: Should I evacuate? What kind of supplies do I need?

For more information on how to develop a hurricane plan, access the City's Hurricane Guide, visit the Hurricane Information page on the City's website, or view the Hurricane Preparedness video.
INFORMATION FOR BUSINESSES
The City of Boca Raton implemented a City-wide stop work order on August 29 at 1pm. Code Enforcement is currently making site visits to enforce construction site maintenance standards. View the important contractor's notice.

CodeRED allows City officials the ability to deliver prerecorded and emergency telephone notifications to residents via text and phone call.To sign up or update your information, visit CodeRED's website .

Listen Up!
Communication is crucial before, during and after a storm. Hurricanes have the capability to knock out the power and destroy cell phone towers leaving you with little to no way to know what is going on in the City. To avoid being in the dark, be sure to have an AM/FM radio handy. The City of Boca Raton uses this as a crucial communication tool to provide important emergency information to the community through Boca Raton Radio 1650AM.
