Our own Mayder Lor was recognized by Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway and the City of Madison Common Council for being a nominee for the MOST Outstanding Youth Worker in Madison, where she received an award. Her work as East's MSCR-Madison School & Community Recreation Recreation Specialist bring consistent support, love and fun to our students daily.
Featured Classroom
Mr. Wannebo's AP Literature & Composition classroom is filled with artifacts from his 26 years as an East teacher, but the space is most alive because students work together to analyze high level text, make connections to real world issues, and grow as scholars.
Successful College Application Week
We had our third annual College Application week during October and it was a huge success. Our seniors completed over 350 college applications with the support of student services and volunteers, from MMSD and the local college community. We also had our second annual College Goal WI - Financial Aid night. We had an amazing turnout with 184 seniors and parents signing into the event. Most of the families were able to submit the FAFSA before leaving that evening. Huge shout out to the English department and all the volunteers for supporting this event. We couldn't do it without you!!

Get Ahead of the Flu Season
From Alli Welsh, UW Student Nurse. Flu season is here! Symptoms of the flu include fevers, achy muscles, chills/sweats, headache, congestion, and sore throat. To protect yourself and others, getting the flu shot is recommended and the most effective thing to do. Not only does it decrease the chance of you getting the flu, but if you do get the flu, it will decrease the severity of it. Most importantly, by getting a flu shot you are protecting the people who cannot protect themselves. This includes newborns, older adults, pregnant women, and immunocompromised individuals (cancer, autoimmune disease). Handwashing during this season is very important. It is a quick and easy task that stops the spread of germs. Other ways of staying healthy include eating a balanced diet and getting enough sleep each night.
