Weekly Sunday service information and parish news.
The Reverend Benjamin Hankinson, Celebrant
In light of the recent State of Illinois indoor mask mandate, all worshippers are asked to wear masks when attending church, including those who are fully vaccinated. We pray that through compassionate fidelity to the common good, we will see the present surge subside.

As we slowly thaw out from this week’s winter weather, a reminder from the Canticles to glorify the Lord in season and out.

Glorify the Lord, you angels and all powers of the Lord, *
   O heavens and all waters above the heavens.
Sun and moon and stars of the sky, glorify the Lord, *
   praise him and highly exalt him for ever.

Glorify the Lord, every shower of rain and fall of dew, *
   all winds and fire and heat.
Winter and Summer, glorify the Lord, *
   praise him and highly exalt him for ever.

Glorify the Lord, O chill and cold, *
   drops of dew and flakes of snow.
Frost and cold, ice and sleet, glorify the Lord, *
   praise him and highly exalt him for ever.

Glorify the Lord, O nights and days, *
   O shining light and enfolding dark.
Storm clouds and thunderbolts, glorify the Lord, *
   praise him and highly exalt him for ever.

  • (Section 1 of Canticle 12, Benedicite – BCP p. 88)

We pray that all are safe and warm, and we look forward to praising the Lord and highly exalting him together with you as we gather for worship this weekend. God bless!

-Fr. Ben

A new parish directory will be published by February 15 and you can insure that your listing is accurate and complete by submitting information that has changed since last summer or, if you are new, information that the parish does not have on record.

Each member of your family should have this basic information on record and up to date:
  • first and last name;
  • address (street, city zip);
  • telephone number or numbers (identify the primary #);
  • birthdate - day/month/year;
  • primary email address;
  • date of first attendance if a new member; and
  • if possible, year of baptism.

A Sunbeam from California
by Jane Weingartner

I received a nice note from George Turner whose mother Sarah was a faithful member of St. Andrew’s for many years. George and our daughter Kirsten were classmates, so I knew Sarah before I became a member at St. Andrew’s. In fact, when I attended my first service here, Sarah rushed over to welcome me. She sat a few rows behind Jim and me on Sunday. Hymn singing always sounded so much better with Sarah’s beautiful soprano voice close by.

After Sarah moved to California to be closer to George, I sent cards to her, one of which prompted this note from her son.
"I was cleaning out some piles of stuff in my mom's room (as I do once in a while) and I noticed she had kept at least one of your letters/cards.

I know that she used to do that as a reminder to write back. But she can't quite manage to actually keep all that in mind at this point.

Still, I wanted you to know she has been thinking of you, and that she treasures your letters and cards. (The one I have in front of me is from when St. A's was about to get a new rector, Fr. Hankinson.)

This March 30 will be her 91st birthday. She has faded a lot in body and mind, but she is still singing when we take her to church, and she is literally humming almost all the time.

Recently, it's been "Good Morning, Good Morning" from Singin’ in the Rain with Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds.

Life has become simpler and less stressful for her, honestly. She just goes with the flow, day to day to day. She is always looking on the bright side. Always. (Which might not have always been the case in the middle of the worries of her career and when my Dad was sick, to be honest.) So, in some ways, this is a joyful and special time in her life."

I told George that Jim and I had just been on a Zoom call with Kirsten and Mary. All of us were getting ready for a winter storm on the 40th anniversary of the storm that closed Edwardsville schools for a week.

George wrote back, “Good luck with the snow.( Meanwhile, I will be applying sunscreen, lol.)"
