The Clubhouse team is here to accommodate resident programs and activities as scheduled. However, there may be some adjustments to the location of the activity/fitness class etc. As those changes occur, we will keep you posted via the weekly newsletter so you can prepare properly.
Community & Clubhouse Announcements
Walking and Jogging in Victoria Gardens

Spending time outdoors in our beautiful community is relaxing and enjoyable. When walking or jogging in the community, it is important to remain vigilant and aware of your surroundings. Walkers and joggers should look out for things such as wildlife, moving vehicles and bikes, and other things that can put you in danger while simply taking a walk. Be mindful of where you're walking and always use the sidewalks when available. When crossing the street, always cross at a crosswalk and be sure to make eye contact with any drivers nearby before doing so. This will ensure that the driver sees you and that it is clear to walk. Wearing reflective clothing at night can help alert drivers that a pedestrian is crossing or is near. Lastly, never walk or run alone at night. For your safety, take a friend or spouse with you.
Fitness Center Rules & Regulations

The team at Victoria Gardens is dedicated to keeping you safe while working out in the Fitness Center. While you're getting fit, it is important to keep in mind that safety is first. A great way to protect yourself while working out is to always wear closed-toe rubber-soled shoes such as sneakers for proper workouts. Flip flops or sandals are never a good idea when working out. Below are a few rules and regulations to remember when working out:

  • When using gym equipment always sanitize the equipment after each use. This will control germs and other bacteria from spreading.
  •  Sports drinks and plastic water bottles are permitted provided they are sealed or capped.
  • Casual workout attire must be worn at all times in the Fitness Center. Upper body garments are required at all times.

To view all Fitness Center Rules, click here .

Message From the Advisory Committee

  1. 135 parking spaces are required per City requirements for the Clubhouse of which 5 need to be handicap.
  2. 131 regular parking space and 9 handicap. Parking spaces are currently provided for a total of 140 parking spaces.
  3. Handicap parking space requirements are 12' wide per stall and 5' wide access aisle. A regular parking space is 9' wide.
  4. Handicap parking spaces shall be located so that the person does not walk behind any other parked car other than their own. There are 4 locations where handicap spaces could be added but this would require the loss of 8 regular parking spaces, 2 each for every handicap space, and a net loss of 4 parking space reducing the total parking lot count to 136 spaces.
  5. Residents in the past have expressed concerns that for various events the parking lot has been full and the Gardens are not at total build out. Reducing the total number of parking spaces may not be agreeable to residents.

Grandma's Cookies Club
The Grandma's Cookies Club is dedicated to baking cookies for service men and women who cannot make it home for the holidays.

Peggy Porter first sent cookies to her grandson, Nick, who was stationed in Italy last year during the holidays. They were so good that he shared them with his fellow air men and they were a hit! She even got letters and cards thanking her for her kind gesture.

This year she is hosting the 1st Annual Grandma's Christmas Cookie drive and needs your help!

If you're interested in joining Peggy, click here to view the flyer.
Sew & Sews

Attention Victoria Gardens Residents!

Do you like to quilt/sew/knit/crochet? Then come & join the Sew & Sews any Wednesday morning (9am-12pm) in the craft room at the clubhouse. We also go out for lunch on the 1st Wednesday of each month. Pictured are some members of the group enjoying a weekend quilting retreat in the multi-purpose room.
Library Volunteer Committee

We wanted to again welcome all our new residents, and to thank ALL our residents for their support of our library.  We can tell by the books on the return cart, that our neighbors and friends are definitely taking advantage of having the convenience of our library. We have added some newly donated books to our shelves, and we would like to thank the donors wholeheartedly. Others will enjoy their generosity.

Just a reminder though, to please check the copyright dates in your prospective donations, as we cannot keep books with a copyright older than 2011. Magazines should be the current or no more than one month old. Our space is limited and we try and do our best to keep things looking good and having a current selection to choose from.

Again, thank you for your support and enjoyment of the library.

Victoria Gardens Women's Club
Warm Clothing Drive

Once again our Women’s Club is sponsoring a warm clothing drive to assist the homeless and needy in our DeLand community. And we will begin our collection on Saturday, November 16.  The items needed, for both men and women are:

Jackets, hoodies, sweatshirts, sweatpants, jeans, flannel shirts, tennis shoes, boots, gloves, stocking caps, knit/cotton scarves, new socks (calf size for men and knee-socks for women), sleep socks, regular size blankets, comforters, and large size throws.

So begin cleaning out your closets, and bring your donations to the box in the Craft Room beginning November 16.  We’ll collect for several weeks, until December 7. Your donations will be given to the Mercy Hour ministry at First United Methodist Church and will be sorted and readied for distribution to those in need before Christmas.

If you have any questions, call Ellie Freund at 386-736-1203 or email her at  ellief30092@peoplepc.com .

Thanks so very much!

MUSIC AT THE GARDENS

Do you enjoy singing, being part of a musical production or playing an instrument in a small group? Maybe you’d like to try and have some fun! There are several opportunities that are available right now.

VeeGees

Singers are always welcome for small groups or the larger choral group which perform for special events and a holiday concert. Production help is needed in the areas of lighting (particularly spotlight), stage manager and crew. Piano accompanists are always welcome.

Instrumental Group

A new instrumental group is being formed. Brush the dust off your instrument! There is a need for a drummer, a string bass player and trumpet player.

If any of these opportunities spark an interest and you would like more information, please contact Deane Booth, Director of Music for the VeeGees at boothmusic@cfl.rr.com.
LEARN TO PLAY PICKLEBALL!

( Weather gets better every day!)

Pickleball instruction for beginners and those who would like to review rules and play strategies will be held at the pickleball courts on Thursday, October 24, at 6:30 p.m., and Wednesday, October 30, at 9:30 a.m. Both sessions will be identical.

Paddles and balls are available at the courts, but if you have your own paddle, please bring it. Comfortable court shoes that will not leave marks on the court are very important and you may want to wear a hat, visor and/or sunglasses.

Why pickleball? A sport of all ages. Easy to learn. Great recreational sport. Fun way to exercise. Get in shape. Meet great people.

For further information or if you have questions, contact Ed Pritchett at 386-626-3378 or epritchett@cfl.rr.com.
Congratulatiopns to Randy Kelly and Mary Carson for placing first in the Tennis Lovers Round Robin Tournament on Nov 3.

We had a great turn out with good competition. After the competition prizes were awarded and the group enjoyed pizza and friendship at the courts.

Thank you to all who participated and thank you to the clubhouse for providing the prizes and for all of their support.

Be on the look out for our next event in the Spring.

COME PLAY DUPLICATE
 BRIDGE!

Wednesday | 1 p.m.

Seeking new and experienced players to join us. For those new to duplicate, the same hands are played at each table and scoring is based on relative performance. In this way, every hand, whether strong or weak, is played in competition with others playing identical cards, and the element of skill is heightened while that of chance is reduced . In other words, if you get a good or bad hand, so do the other players. It is fun to compare how others played the same hand.

Stop by (usually in the multi-purpose room) any Wednesday between 1 and 4 p.m. to meet the players and sign up to be called when players are needed. You are invited to join us!
Hand, Knee & Foot Lessons

Welcome all new residents to a fun and interesting card game. Monday at 1:30 PM is the time for teaching anyone who wants to learn how to play.

Regular game times are Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays at 1 PM in the card room. Please try to come at least 15 minutes before 1 PM so we can make certain how many players will be participating.
Thank you and we look forward to seeing you all.
