Poinsettias
The poinsettias we see today are different from the original poinsettias that were discovered in South and Central America. Breeders have hybridized new colors and made plants more compact in an effort to make the plant more attractive for your home.

Every year, Lockwood's celebrates Christmas in July by bringing in small poinsettia plugs. It's necessary to start growing the plants in July to make sure they have enough time to grow into a full plant and to turn the bract from green to red. Lockwood’s grows over 20 varieties of poinsettias including white, yellow, blush, shades of pink, red, and burgundy. We also grow novelty varieties like winter rose, mouse ears, tapestry, and princettias.

To maintain your poinsettia at home, place it in a warm, bright location and keep it evenly moist. Poinsettias can be kept as houseplants all year round. In the fall, they need a period of long nights in order to trigger flowering and bloom for the Christmas season.
