St. Arnold of Metz
Among the beer lovers of Northern Europe the legends of Arnauff of Metz are well known. Some even think, he inspired parts of the Lord of the Ring!
For our purposes, the legend of the good SAINTLY BISHOP'S Wake and procession are of great interest! We Irish and Pub aficionados love a good wake after all...
When Arnold died in 645, his devoted followers formed a procession numbering thousand to honor the holy man and carry his remains to be buried at En route, they ran out of beer! Through his intercession with the Divine and / or good angels the kegs carried along miraculously went from being almost dry to replenishing themselves many times over keeping the multitude in ale. For this reason, He is known and praised as the Patron Saint of Brewers!
His Feast Day is July 4th.
